Clear Channel Making Cuts. Is LA Next?

Ziegler blew it pretty early on talking about how much he hated LA and then going after John Kobelt on the air didn't help. That's what got him exiled to Sherman Oaks from what I heard. Yeah he wrote a book and got some TV play but his head got way too big too fast. He's probably doomed in LA.

The fact he is 16th 25-54 and 10th 12+ in 7 to 10 probably is not making anyone happy, either.

I agree the performance isn't that hot, but what syndicated fare would they replace him? There aren't any great shows left unless they want to pull strings with Premiere to get Beck, but they'd lose a good amount of inventory. The answer would be another local host.

They've tested out a few, don't know who it would be, but I'm sure they're looking...

I could foresee them perhaps letting go of deejays that make over-scale in favor of bringing in new talent at scale for the union stations.

And how fortunate for the corporate fatcats that the union negotiates what amounts to PAY CUTS in new contracts, when they get around to negotiating new contracts, that is.

As far as cuts at KFI, I hear that Zigler's contract is about up anyway, and the general consensus is that he's out.

I think Ziegler pretty much hates everywhere so I'm sure he felt that same about Louisville.

If they fire Ziegler they loose the "local" edge on the competition. Of course KABC will have the evening baseball games next year. I think the fracas with John Kobylt was mostly the result Kobylt's over valued self worth. He's now always bitching about the "VOD Cast" equipment for Handel in the studio and how the station website so prominently promotes Handel. They no longer cross promote on Handel like they used to but Handel has so much ratings clout that he wouldn't dare go ballistic on Bill. Ziegler was a no risk target for his temper.

If Ziegler has been exiled (I don't know for a fact that this is true)to Sherman Oaks, it might have been better to have sent the John and Ken Show out of Burbank if anyone had to be banished. I also understood that there are twenty some odd studios in the Burbank complex so I would think that if they need to keep people away from one another or out of the clutter of additional equipment that they could find an out of the way unoccupied room somewhere in Burbank.

I enjoy Ziegler most of the time except for his steadfast support of Bush, no matter what. I really like thoughtful talk shows so I also love Michael Jackson (not the one with the exotic animals and prepubescent boys). I also often enjoy Dennis Prager. I would hate to see JZ go, but ratings, not interpersonal relationships, will drive the ultimate decision.

I like entertainment like Handel and Stephanie Miller too but I would love an opportunity to clearly hear Glenn Beck. While John and Ken are entertaining their show is basically shallow and they latch on to media appealing issues that they can further sensationalize. Of course I'm sure their ratings justify their salaries and permit the tolerance of Mr. Kobylt's tantrums, they can be very entertaining in an annoying sort of way.

Maybe if Ziegler goes they will put the new Phil Hendrie show on, that would be poetic justice or something like that ;D

I’ve tried to give Ziegler a chance but I always feel like he is shouting at me. I turn the dial within four minutes. Hendrie is doing a similar type of show -- one long filibuster. I don’t think Hendrie would have any success on KFI unless KFI would let him do the old show. The new Hendrie is boring squared. That leaves me bouncing between Tllden and Colmes. Tilden can be very good when he has an interesting guest, but many times that’s not the case. With Colmes, I really like the way he works the phones. He zaps through the calls. There is an old school feel about the show.

After 7pm I want to relax, I don’t want a carnival barker like Ziegler screaming at me.

Actually I had his old show in mind. I enjoy Zig when he has an interesting topic, but he is preachy when he gets on Bush and the War. Then he's a lot like Limbaugh Lite. I would hate to lose a local topical show in the evening, Tilden is not my cup of tea, didn't like him on KZLA and not especially now. There is Dennis Miller but he is not local and he's on KRLA after they dumped Savage to open the slot. Beck is not local either and besides KLAA got him. I've never heard Colmes on the radio but he's annoying to me on FNC with Hannity.

Any thoughts about Sean Rima? He's on the weekends and in my opinion not so bad. He'd keep the needles moving until the antenna hat guy shows up at ten and probably take less salary than Ziegler does.

The Original Hendrie Show is ALOT of work. I like seeing him on CBS, 'The Unit' and hearing him do all the voice work on The Simpsons, King Of The Hill, ect...

To keep up with all that and do the show the O.G. way, well it would probably give the guy a heart attack!

Viva La Hendrie!

KIIS: Probably like 106.1 in Dallas, Syndie Ryan Seacrest, VT middays, and either give Jo Jo or ODM the boot.

FYI: JoJo Wright is under contract until Jan. '09 - his role with CC could expand dramatically within the next few years....or is a morning show in his near future?

I caught the tail end of Ziegler tonight. He was taking calls. People were saying, “good luck on your new journey.” Not sure if he announced he was leaving or just reading the tea leaves. It didn’t sound like it was definite. One caller said he should get a job on a tabloid tv show. He replied, “I wouldn’t turn down the job, but I doubt I would be hired because I’m too dangerous.”

Puh-leeze.
