Clear Channel Nashville - on life support?

It's coming up on a year since the Operations Managers changed over at 55 Music Square West and what do we have? Still no morning show on WSIX (what happened with the Warren Brothers?), the entire River airstaff gone except for Woody & Jim, Steve Gill getting ready to exit WLAC, The Rock with only one live body during drive time and The Beat still reeling from the death of Scooby. Thoughts? Is it time to turn out the lights?

Is Steve Gill leaving because of Clear Channel or is he leaving because of his own? Since his show is syndicated, if he were being taken off WLAC by Clear Channel, I think he would move his show to another station or signal, much like Dave Ramsey did. But it is my understanding that he is giving up his radio show and the syndication of his show, altogether, to concentrate of other business opertunities. I never cared for his show, anyway, but was it his decision to give up his show or Clear Channels?
 
Is it time for CC to turn off the lights (very unlikely) or is it time for CC to convert all of their stations in the market to Premium Choice (very likely)?

Is it really "live and local" if it's syndicated? (See also: Sean Hannity, WABC-AM.)
 
Here's an interesting note: 2012 was the best Ratings and Revenue year for CC-Nashville since 2007. It's the first time the cluster hit a revenue budget since 2009. Lights out = unlikely.
 
One question I have about WLAC, other than Dan Eidem (please forgive spelling if it is wrong), are any of the local news anchors live or local? Somehow I get the feeling they are not.

Ya, there's nobody left in the building to pay. No expenses = more revenue.
 
Like it or not, most current listeners don't really care about "live bodies" anymore. As much as it may pain many of us older radio folks, they're making money and giving today's listeners what they want.
 
I heard that awful DJ on 98 the other morning say that a new morning show was coming soon, but no details as to who. It couldn't get any worse. Is it Slam Duncan in the mornings? I can't even listen. The jokes are sad. I really like amy paige, but they're playing the same Kenny Chesney song at the top of the hour, every hour today so had to change it.
 
To program Gill's former hours with a series of WSJ This Morning one-hour segments is to all but end WLAC's local relevance.
 
I just saw this on my FB newsfeed from a friend in Austin, TX:

"Alright all my Nashville friends, you're getting Austin's Bobby Bones Show later this month on WSIX! Enjoy them! They are awesome!"
 
My advice to them - sign just a one year lease. Of course, CC now gets to clear out morning shows at multiple other stations so even more $$ for them. They did mention Facebook and Twitter on the announcement and those are keywords that CC loves to hear. But, will the 18-34's turn off their iPhones and Androids and listen?

Also, from the announcement, the new show will be on just here starting on the 18th, then to the other stations on the 25th.

I still miss Gerry and Mike. When Billy left, I stopped listening to 98 completely but I'm 39 so I don't count $$-wise!
 
Actually had the opportunity to watch a little over an hour of the Billy Bones show unfold a few months ago. Think Free Beer and Hot Wings meets the Bert Show only with the older students from a college campus and a Country twist. Only with less interesting stuff going on.
 
One point that the made a couple of times on the announcement video; was how easy it was going to be working with Country Artist. Are CHR performers that hard to work with?

I did think it was odd that he took that shot at CHR. Traditionally, Country artists have been more radio friendly, but I think it depends more on the artist than the genre. There are some Country acts that are notororiously difficult to work with.
