Clear Channel News Anchor “forgot” what station he was on

Clear Channel’s John Craig forgot what station he was doing the “local” news for on the 11 a.m. newscast on WTAG-AM 580 in Worcester. He came out of the Fox News Update and gave an ID for WELI-AM 960. Although he ID'd WELI, it was the "local" news for Worcester.

This is what you get when you farm out your "local" news pretending to still be Worcester's News Leader. :'(

On the Noon news, it was back to John Craig in the "WTAG Newsroom". In quotes because we know he doesn't really broadcast from Asnebumskit Hill at the WTAG studios.

Does this mean they'll book Craig on the Today Show and Letterman?

He should take lessons from.......

He should take lessons from Elliot Abrams of AccuWeather. How many stations is Elliot on? I don't think I've ever heard him do the wrong call letters (although I'm sure it must have happened a few times). Elliot is a pro.

He is also recorded for 75% of his hits.

Dr. Abrams can think on his feet and cover quickly. There's the story about he came on for a live update in a town with heavy rain. He started to talk about what a beautiful day it was - remembered what market he was talking to and quickly added "if you're a duck."

To be fair, most of Elliot's spots on a given morning are recorded. When he goes live, he gets interviewed by local talent and doesn't have to give the call letters.

The WELI newscasts from John Craig and others are old and outdated a lot of times. I'll hear things like, "Gov. Malloy will speak this morning", on a newscast after the governor has spoken.
