Clear Channel NYC Metro Stations On The Market?

Clear Channel the nation's largest radio group according to Inside Radio may have to sell one of their New York owned radio stations. These stations include, (Power 1051) WWPR-FM, WAXQ-1043, WKTU, WHTZ-100 and (Lite-FM) WLTW.

The 1996 Telecommunications Act states that a broadcasting company in the largest markets which includes New York can own up to eight stations and no more than five on one band.

Clear Channel already owns five stations in New York plus WALK-FM on Long Island which is part of the Nassau/Suffolk market (18th rank) according to Arbitron. But Nassau/Suffolk is included in the New York City Metro market along with NYC's other suburbs when it comes to ratings.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

WALK FM is the Baby Station, I'd say it will be the one to go.

I can all but Guarentee that WLTW will NOT be sold :p

Yes -- and it's on Long Island

According to this week's NERW, Clear Channel has quietly put WALK-FM/AM on Long Island up for sale. The reason is as Kevin put it.

If Clear Channel was selling its NYC stations it wouldn't have signed a 15-year lease to move them to the Financial District in lower Manhattan.
