CLEAR CHANNEL OUT OF ALEXANDRIA

Clear Channel Exits Louisiana Market
For $4 Million

In a deal filed with the FCC today, Clear Channel has agreed to sell Sports KDBS-AM, AC KKST-FM, Country KRRV-FM & Classic Rock KZMZ-FM/Alexandria, LA to Cenla Broadcasting Co. — a locally based company that already owns News/Talk KSYL and CHR/Pop KQID in the market.

The transaction makes Cenla the dominant company in Alexandria, market No. 221. Opus Media Partners and Citadel each enjoy three-station clusters, while Cajun, Flinn, FM Broadcasting, Radio Group, URBan Radio, NWLA and Rose Ann Marx each have stand-alone operations in the market.

Clear Channel gained control of the four stations in Alexandria following its merger with AMFM, which had acquired the stations via its 1999 merger with Capstar.

Cenla has already made a $200,000 escrow deposit. It is not known when closing is expected.

??? Just to clarify, last time I checked, Citadel doesn't own properties in Alexandria. Citadel has stations in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette in Louisiana.

;D

They don't.. The people who did the story must have just gone by the ratings book, which has 3 stations from Lafayette owned by Citadel in it...

Right now it's :

Flinn: (LMA by Cenla) KEDG 106.9 (Urban)
Cenla: KQID 93.1 (Pop), KSYL 970 (News/Talk)
Clear Channel KKST 98.7 (A/C),KRRV 100.3 (country), KZMZ 96.9 (classic rock), and KDBS 1410 (sports)
Opus: KLAA 103.5 (country), KBKK 105.5 (classic country), KEZP 104.3 (classic hits)
Urban: KBCE 102.3 (urban), KFAD 93.9 (urban)
The rest are religious broadcasters with most on AM that are one lung except for 2 of the religious stations

The other stations in Alexandira's ratings are from the Avoylles Parish listeners so their are a few locals listed from there and the 3 from Lafayette

At least those stations soon to be formerly owned by CC will be in local hands. Maybe Cenla will put more local programming on their newly acquired properties, which is something that's been lacking basically everywhere nationwide.
