So Al Franken will be replacing Rush Limbaugh on all of CC's big stations, right?

Turnabout is fair play. I for one, will have a hearty laugh if this comes to pass.

Don't expect this to have any effect on what is on the air on CC stations. These are money people, not radio people. Chances are, CC will get even more bottom-line oriented, if that's possible.

Look at what they intend to own as well as the CC stations: Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and nine other dailies, as well as 25 television stations, a radio station, some Internet operations and the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

The Cubs?! The ultimate loser baseball team, and a bunch of failing papers?!

The real comic irony is that they passed on Err Amerika, who's bankrupt and looking to sell. Maybe they can pick up AAR and have the complete set ;)

Cubs may be a loser baseball team but financially they are always a winner, they continue to sellout the place even though they rarely have winning seasons despite a talented pitching staff.

There is no story here with Clear Channel. They are about the money. Who they contribute to in this case makes no difference - CC is going to program whatever achieves the bottom line.

Right now the best way to achieve a profitable bottom line is to reduce staff and hire at minimum wage. Just enough people to keep the lights on and the carrier up. If you can't sell it, cheapen it and hope for enough gullible advertisers to ante up. The "bottom line" is not about gross - it's about net.
