Clear Channel Panama City GM Out

D

I just heard that the GM for Clear Channel Radio in Panama City is leaving this Friday. Anyone else heard this or know anything about it? This came from a pretty reliable source.

Well you are partially right.....he isn't out (meaning he wasn't fired)....he is leaving on his own to go to work in a non-broadcasting capacity......he announced it today at a staff meeting.....wish I had your sources.....hell I work here and I didnt know about it until this morning...

cceng

Why would anyone leave that position for any normal job in the civilian world?
Man, I'd make the move back to PCB for that gig. Not like there's any competition
other than Nate. What's it paying, CCENG? Wonder if they'd miss me at the drive thru
window in Nashville?

Tibbs....not any of my business why he has decided to leave....you know who to call to answer you other questions I am sure ;)

Why would anyone leave that position for any normal job in the civilian world?
Because people come to their senses and realize that radio is nothing like it used to be.
Because GM's get tired of the daily beat down from their upstream SVP, SVPP, PEE PEE, ETC.
Because talented managers can really make more money outside of the radio world.
Because more people are wanting to get out of Clear Channel than want to get in.
Because PCB is a tourist town and maintaining a steady revenue stream that meets expectations from on high is a hard gig.
Tourists bring their IPhone, Ipod, MP3 player, laptop, now the Itablet, Sony bookreader to the beach.
They DONT come to listen to the local radio station.
Just saying...
Good luck Jimmy on your new adventure. It's a brave new world out there.

Nicely said. JV's been there a long time, and taken those properties about as far as they're going to go. Creative people like to be challenged, and he's no doubt ready for a different challenge.

That "more, more" shit from the CC hierarchy has probably lost its charm, too. At a certain point we all know that they know... and their bosses know... that you can't get blood from a turnip--so it becomes a stupid game being played on a daily/weekly/monthly basis in exchange for a paycheck. Time for a new game.

Have fun, Jim.

Man, my bad sense of humor has finally really fallen to an all time new low.... if you guys don't even get my bs. wow.

Spring break, rnr...lets go./ We need a non-radio intervention of sun and surf...:)

Do wheelchairs rust?

Look, Tibbs, all we really need is one (okay, two) sweet young bikini-clads who think rusted wheelchairs are cute and take pity on us. Maybe we'll remind them of their grandfathers--or, better yet, their lecherous uncles!

Among 100,000-or-so drunk coeds at PCB in March, the odds have to be in our favor. Well... maybe not--but it COULD happen!

I'll submit my resume to CC this afternoon...

First song ~ "We're to Sexy For Our Shirts"...

Whose foolin who? RNR, you and I both know we're still hotter 90% of those
athletic, tanned college BOYS with no game. Man, I was less than a quarter of
a century old back then. OUCH! Something just popped or broke. Good side of
the situation is we're not up thar like that thar ingineer feller. Talk about Chamber
of Commerce award winning video....after seeing CW on the big screened HDTV
...what bikini clad spring breaker would be able to resist the urge to add a few
extra day's on the world's MOST beautiful white sand beaches.

I hope there is no lightning here in Nashville tonight, as I would be a target if
I ever was gonna be...after this tail.

Awh, shucks. You've got me thinking of the changes I'd make...

First, I'd have Rob climb every tower to do a THOROUGH check of the strobes (ehem, STOBIEZ) on all of our tower sites. Don't want any burnt out ones, it ruins the DX. (Duh!)

Then I'd make him my GSM. Yup. He'd be able to sell us to out of market stations...he'd tell 'em they could hear their spots all the way from Panama City on the right night, with the right radio. Man, that'd be a sales pitch.

I think I'm done here.

Nate:

Do you really think ole Rob would hire a bunch of old radio haacks. He's already all but told Charlie
to take a hike. But, yeah, he'd make a great GSM. Rob, you got any 70's style leisure suits that are
olive green? What changes would you make to them CC channel stations formats? First, kill WPAP
and maybe Sunny 98 because they both need to become WRKN K rocks and Talk FLA would become
a flagship for that format Coast to Coast and probably just turn off the others ones. Or go Classic
Rock because....

I'm willing to come get fired by Rob. It does have to be March before I am willing to come back though.
I have scrupples. Why take CC's money in Feb before the $$$ comes in along with the beach bunnies
..er I mean commercials spots.

Wow ~ Would Strobey 98 sound like an updated version of Sunny 98? No country.
