Clear Channel Pays Fire Victims

Clear Channel Providence will now end up with one employee. They will be rebroadcasting Ham Radio transmissions before to long.

Cutbacks on air staff at WSRS and B101 and other departments could be because of this lawsuit.

I see more cuts and possibly more syndicated programming at Providence stations.

More than likely it will be paid for by insurance, and not out of local budgets.
I would not expect to see this affect the station's budgets.

With the 5th anniversary quickly approaching. I recieved an E-mail from WHJY's promotions dept trying to sell tickets for a Benefit concert at the Dunk Feb. 25th with Tesla, Dee Snider and a few more.Sounds like agreat line-up.
As a side note 22 million from Clear channel and I think 30 million or whatever it is from WPRI-TV is still not enough for lost of life that horrible night in 2003.
February 20th will always be a sad day here in Rhode Island.
God bless! and prayers to any living family members or victims that may read this board.
I'm sure WHJY will play The Doctor's montage of air checks throughout the day February 20th like they have been doing and I think they should air it every year as long as they can on this date.

:'(

Insurance companies may decide that typical station promotional activity: promoting a show, giving away tickets and having a personality MC will require extra coverage; perhaps an expensive rider to a station's policy. That's an extra expense.

Settlements like this don't establish legal precedents but do establish practical precedents. If insurance companies decide there is more risk, rates/rider costs go up.

Also broadcast corps. may decide that even allowing an On-Air personality to MC an event pro-bono may constitute exposure to the corporation and ban those free appearances.

I'm so sorry for this. ENOUGH! I'm sick of the 'victims' , the shrines, the tv interviews, and the BLOOD sucking Lawyers! Clear Channel and just about EVERYONE else had nothing to do with that fire! It's ALL about MONEY. ALL of it. The Town 'Officials' are the ONLY ones who should have done something, but 'government' people are always protected.
If I NEVER hear about The Station Fire, Natalee Holloway and Anna Nicole Smith, I'd be very happy. ENOUGH.

VH-1 will be taping the concert coming up at The Dunkin Donuts Center. And airing it Easter Sunday. I think they should air it live. After all, who is gonna miss the 200th million showing of Flavor Of Love? Or Psycho Chick from NY?

I heard Dee Snider of Twisted Sister talking to John Depetro last week and from what I understand it is going to be only 1 hour long with sort of an interview deal with survivors and footage of the concert.
Dee Snider is on that CMT show of Rock stars gone country.I heard him say it will air on VH-1, VH-1 classics and CMT. Here's the card as it stands right now at http://www.whjy.com/cc-common/mainheadlines2.html?feed=110174&article=3096354

I would like to see WHJY air the whole concert live. When was the last time you heard a station do that?

Oooh - Last year The Bridge broadcast several shows live. Blues on the Beach, shows from The Towers in Naragansett, off the stage at The JVC Jazz Festival in Newport, for starters!
