Clear Channel Phoenix Layoffs

Rumors are flying that Phoenix will be in the next round of Clear Channel layoffs. A hiring freeze has been put in place. Managers have been told they can not fill positions when someone leaves a station. The budgets for 07 have been slashed. Promotions budgets have been hit hardest with no marketing funded. No new positions will befinanced. There will ony be one web person per market for all stations and big money talent contracts are under the microscope.

Radio and Records has a whole section of their web page assigned to Cheap Channel layoffs. News/talk stations are being hit hardest.

Even those of us who dig dishing it out on cc hate to see news like this. When you start talking about people worried about losing their jobs that's uncool. These budget cuts are what give cc a bad reputation.

Oprah and Friends is seeking people... I am serious! (Not Sirius...It's XM... ;) ) Truly, I am serious, though. They are seeking producers/web designers.

It's not just Clear Channel.. and not even just radio. The entire media world is in economic upheaval my friend. Look around.

NBC Lays Off at Least 18 at Three News Programs

NBC News officials said yesterday that they had begun laying off employees connected to its flagship programs — including “Today,” “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” and “Dateline NBC” — as part of companywide budget cuts announced last month by the division’s corporate parent, NBC Universal.

so, airchick, link a sister up? Where are these Oprah jobs?

I'm getting no sense in my market that the talker or the news/talker are headed for further layoffs (there have been a few). Watch me get comfy, then get booted out on my a$$!

I'm in Dallas and what's happened here and in Atlanta should make anyone in Clear Channel nervous. They're slicing news talk stations back to the bone. No one saw this coming. The worst cutting seems to be Atlanta where they fired everyone and put nothing but national shows on the legendary station WGST. Long time hosts, producers, and news people were all canned three days before Thanksgiving. This must have something to do with getting ready for going private.

The pink slips are flying. Another top 10 market is victim.

Now, the entire WRKO newsroom in Boston is fired at one time.

WRKO is owned by Entercom, not Clear Channel. It seems that the CC layoffs slowed down or stopped ever since the sale to the investment firm, Hopefully there won't be any more rounds of firings.

Boston is no longer a top 10 market, Atlanta jumped over Boston which is now #11.

This may be true, but Clear Channel by far leads the job slashing frenzy. CC is the poster child for corporate greed. These vermin are making more money than they will ever spend while they devastate the lives of many hard-working, dedicated people.

News departments appear to be the big victim of the Clear Channel cost cutting. Houston just laid off 6 people yesterday. LA let 4 people go leaving no reporters.

And even going private hasn't changed CC's mentality.

Clear Channel executives prove again that they are complete liars. They said when they announced their buyer that they did not see any layoffs coming. The long list of markets hit by layoffs since then is now getting a lot longer.

Here's the updated list.

Cincinnati fires 20 people
Columbus fires two production mixers
Miami fires mid-day news anchor, top traffic reporter, sports reporter, 6 music jocks
Milwaukee fires two traffic reporters and several news people
New York City rock station loses four people
Hartford sports station staff cut back
Major firings in Baltimore
Charleston
Philadelphia
Providence
Columbus
Tallahassee
Spokane
St. Louis

Rumor is CC Eastern Division was first. West Division is next.

R&R is now updating the list three times a day.

Where the f*** did you get that information about LA? You might wanna wash it off, because it must have come straight from you a**. You also might wanna check the LA boards before posting something like this. Robin Bertolucci posted over there that there have been no layoffs whatsoever at KFI. Do a little research, even just a cursory glance. It's called journalism.

Roberta is still on the WOH-only Ms. Iworkedfornbcnewsandtheussenate is gone. Hate to see the layoffs but glad they snuck this one in.
