Clear Channel Radio How Low Can You Go?

I understand that Clear Channel Radio is no longer the big dog for billing in the Memphis market. For the first time in 12 years the Clear Channel 7 station cluster is NOT the #1 local biller. I heard they were $200,000 off their Dec 2010 billing. I guess all those changes they've been making in the sales department have really paid off. The good news for CC corporate is those sales commission checks are really small. No Ratings...No Billing...No Good

I understand that they are not #2 either.

On the bright side, they have cut the ever important "cost of sales" down to a managable level.
Steady cuts in commissions over the last several years have addded to their current problem. Wouldn't want to be over on Thousand Oaks.

In addition to great on air talent a station needs great sales and sales management talent to be successful. Some companies if you look at their entire cluster are 0 for 3.

so, CC doesnt monitor its local clusters? why would they allow this kind of suck(apparent) to continue?

Looks to me that they were off about 1.3 million for the year in local spot.....dropping from 41.3% of local to 36.7%. Sad when in 2008 they took 50%....

Are the previously announced appointments from Arkansas now in control in Memphis?

It would explain a good many things.

News yesterday that Mark Koppelman was out as RVP and gone from Houston....he was over the Memphis cluster untill they named Tony Berringer out of Fayetteville as the RVP over the Memphis cluster. Word has it that Oppenhimer was Koppleman's guy......

Maybe Berringer will dig a little deeper to find the truth. The market has actucally had 4 over-lords this year...Kopelman-Toulas-Adkins-and now Berringer. Lots of blame & lies have been weaved by the present market manager and no one has been around long enough to look or care.
