Sure. I'm sure millions of people will be willing to pay $5/month in addition to other cell phone fees to listen to a low bitrate stream on a crummy cell phone speaker.

Why is it that you two keep mentioning the cost of an HD radio as being too high, yet want to spend my money at every turn? Every alternative you've mentioned involves sub-par hardware and recurring fees.

Oh excuse me, but I believe that cell phones have a higher bit-rates than lousy 56kbs HD radios ! For that outrageous $300 HD radio, you are just paying your fees up-front !

Excuse me, it is 96kbps (that is maximum), but not enough for the claimed "CD quality":

"One problem IBOC radio has is the limited bitrate. 96Kbps max is just not enough to convey CD quality audio without significant effort. And that's the other problem, being time. We have an 8 second latency as it is. Adding more is not going to fly. So the choice is either more compute (expensive, particularly on the receiver side), or more time."

But, still not CD quality, as claimed ! There are plenty of blogs and articles, where people are not impressed with the audio quality of HD Radio, plus, Satellite Radio has well-over 100 channels, but HD Radio just carries lousy local AM/FM Radio.
