Clear Channel Raleigh Changes

One of the radio good guys Dick Harlow is out at Clear Channel Raleigh. I hear there are shockwaves at Smoketree Court because Dick was well liked. But he ran into the same sales juggernaut his predecessors did. For all their flaws, Curtis Media and Capitol know how to sell advertisers on what they have and what they have pales by comparison to what Clear Channel has....or had. No announcement on who is next through the revolving GM door but he is probably wise to rent. Is it possible the Showgram parade stunt was a last straw?

Why was the talent not terminated as well? BEFORE you say ratings success please check the numbers. Barely in the top 5 these days. You can bet the new GM will have one Robert Dumas on a very short leash.

VERY sorry to hear this! Dick is a class individual and was one of the best GM's I ever worked for

Worked with Harlow in the 80s and competed against him in the 90s. Stand up guy and a good broadcaster.

Dick Harlow is not only a highly class act....but a flaw in our society where we toss the winners aside to try to find someone cheaper. We reward the (in the words of Neal Boortz) leeches, parasites and people that totally have NO CLUE as to what is going on. It will be interesting to see what FLUNKIE CC produces as Mgr. of their HW properties. Meanwhile, Dick.....go...enjoy your years ahead (hopefully you've saved) and tell the rest of the broadcast world to kiss your ass. Dick....you deserve much better than what was handed to you. God bless you buddy. A former friend and employee

The plan is to eliminate market managers altogether and utilize "regional managers". The sales manager at each cluster would then report to the regional manager. Clear Channel saves several big-buck salaries by doing it this way.

There's much more to come in the coming months.

When do we start the official countdown clock for Clear Channel's demise? They've already practically eliminated nearly all of the broadcasting positions, now they're even chopping off market manager heads....Regional managers???? You don't have a boss type figure to deal with clients who are paying you money on a weekly basis....I know there are sales reps but companies like to know that they can meet with a top figure if they need to.

Clear Channel employees must be on the edge of their seats at all time on whether or not they'll have a job. Job Security is clearly not what it used to be in America, but Clear Channel takes it to another level.

So sad that good people have to fall victim because of greed, poor management and the cheapening of the radio business..Clear Channel has written a large manual on how to destroy radio stations and screw good people for the most part..We can only hope that those left in our business can learn from this so it will never happen again.

I give them until 2016. At that point, CC will probably declare bankruptcy, and sell off a multitude of it's assets. Chances are that it will go into chapter 7 because they gutted the stations so completely that they are worth less then they were in 1999.

And in broadcasting classes, they will teach students that Clear Channel did not conduct a good broadcasting/business product.

The stupidest part of it all is CC cutting so many people and then running these expensive music festivals, leading to CC cutting even MORE people.

How about the new CEO taking a party-cruise with his pals to France on the company's dime? That was a cute one, right after taking over his new post

Bob Pittman-helmed Clear Channel Communications is splashing the cash as it attempts to right the ship and rebrand itself as a hip digital music giant and dump its radio and outdoor sign origins.

At the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in France, Clear Channel International, hoped to make a big splash by hosting a VIP party featuring Elton John at the ultra-luxe Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, and an after-party on a Clear Channel yacht.

-NY POST

Company is in debt up to its eye balls, but let us not forget, the government is completely complacent with all of this nonsense, in the end they have to sign off on their absolutely ridiculous acquisitions, like buying Metro Networks and WOR Radio while they're debt is sinking them down the road.

It will all blow up in the end, they have Rush Limbaugh on the hook for what....half a billion? While the right-wing talk format is plummeting at stations all across the country with the new PPM format. Their time will come, it will be well overdue, but it will come.
