Clear Channel Regions Managers

Just read the story about the new (old) management structure for Clear Channel. How do you think it will effect Memphis? Is this the begining of less decisions being made at the local level? Do you think Memphis will be overseeing other markets or will be looked over by another market? Any word?

The Operations Manager for Fayetteville, AR, Dave Ashcraft, will be overseeing Memphis, and Little Rock as RPM. Interesting.

Are the RPP and GM Overlords a pkg deal. Does that mean the MM from Fayettville in CC new RVP?

These are the jokes, right?

FROM today trades: Tony Beringer will be overseeing Memphis, along with Little Rock, Fort Smith and Springfield, MO. You wonder if this is all setting the stage to one day have these “Regional Marketing Managers” take on not just supervisory roles outside their own markets, but direct management. Ditto, possibly, for the RPMs.

Its "Back to the Future". Good luck Tony & Dave with Memphis

Luckily, Tony will be able to handle the voice tracking duties in those markets as well.

This "experiment" will fail. The two "managers" in question each inherited a highly successful cluster of stations built on the expertise of others. They're both in way over their heads here.

CCR here has it's issues, especially with WEGR and WREC. It will be interesting to see if the programming guy has any solutions for either station. Tony will have his hands full on the sales side, with a team that lost two of their top five billers a couple of months ago, and a cluster that is now hovering at 40% of the revenue in the market, when it was at 50% three years ago. Good luck, guys.

CC shares of local are way under 40%. They have a big hill to climb. They should re-assemble the sales and management team that got them over the 50%. What does their corp not see? Does the market manager have pictures of Hogan and a donkey in Mexico? It looks as if they are $1.2 under 2010 billing. If its a matter of paying the old team they seem to be worth it, I doubt they were making over a million. Bring Spencer back and let him have some real live people on Rock 103 and WREC and I'm sure things would be better. If the trades are right CC Memphis will probably be in for more voice tracking and PC jocks. You might as well change all the call letters to WIHR....I Heart Radio. I wonder in they can cut their way to profits?

CCr's local dropped to 36.4% in the Sept's Miller Kaplan, compared with Cumulus' 32.9 and Entercom's 27.5%. CCr was down 5.5% in local over last year, whilke Cumulus grew 2.5% and Entercom was up 2%....not a good track record for Michael and company. The only problem with reassembling the 'old team' is that most of them wouldn't go back if they were asked...or begged.
