Clear Channel RIFS: Is Tampa Affected?

Heard traffic on WFLA this afternoon and did not hear Gary McHenry. Hopefully he's spared and he's just taking a vacation day - though the fact that he's been there a long time, while it's usually celebrated, serves as a cause for concern during these times... sadly.

Meanwhile, CC's Sarasota cluster is affected:

"Country WCTQ (106.5) says goodbye to PD/afternoon driver Tim Jones ([email protected]). Also APD/MD/midday host Heidi Decker, WTZB-FM (105.9) PD James Russell and sister-station WSRZ-FM (107.9) producer & station webmaster Chris Hengel."

Garo's a mainstay and a market icon. Though they are trying to cut costs as much as possible, I would imagine his contract has a heck of a payout. I guess we'll tune in tomorrow and find out

Let's hope so, Razed. Let's not forget that CC parted ways with Nancy Alexander earlier this year... not comparing Nancy and Gary, but you see my point...

Courtney Bright was doing the traffic this morning on MIX.

I also hope Gary has taken some time off but someone in the know will report soon I am sure.

In Orlando, Daisy Ash is doing the traffic on XL106.7 and Real Radio 104.1 so she's still around.

Part of the lure of the radio for me is the familiar voices in addition to the music they play. It's nice to hear Gary and Daisy in the morning and I hope Gary is still around.

If he left, I hope it's by his own choosing and not for another reason.

I know when Dan D was around it was always struck a nerve that Gary did the traffic from home and was never at the palatial Gandy abode. Those were the days that the greatness that is Gabe Hobbs was around and Garo was able to stick around. The Gandy folks hub and spoke a ton of traffic to other markets in the state. Most should stay. As for others outside of traffic, there is still a lot of talent that are not necessarily on the Premium Choice docket that could draw attention - albeit hopefully not for their sake. There have been cuts already this year in the business office and traffic and continuity. There's still a heavy stable of Sales Managers and PD's and MD's and APD's. Then you have a workhorse like Ron Michaels who is the current CC prototype (in a town of markets and multitasks like a mother) and a damn good one at that!

Back when Bubba was on 98 Rock, there was a funny song by BTLS character "Ned" called "F*** The World," where Ned proceeds to say "F***" to everything from former Devil Ray Wade Boggs to even "George and Weezie" from "The Jeffersons." There were a couple of lines dedicated to Gary McHenry ("... slouch... ain't in the 'copter, he's doing traffic from his [expletive] couch...") and the aforementioned "Dan D" ("Dan DiLoreto... hope he ends up in the ghetto...").

Gary was doing traffic today as usual, so obviously all is well on that front. I don't think any on-air staff lost their jobs, at least none that I know of.
