Clear Channel river of blood

My sources at clearchannel tell me their was a nasty bloodbath this week. Does anybody know anything? They couldn't talk but will tell me later. I wanna know now. Do tell if you know, or ask around if you have your own sources and be gracious enough to share it here.

Just wait to you hear what hapens next week at Clear Channel. The stock date close is coming soon.

I don't want to be the next in the line of fire... so I won't say much...

But it was pretty bad.

"River of Blood" is a pretty accurate description.

Interesting. CC did this, i think it was early this year or maybe late last year back east and into some midwest markets and I kept on waiting for the hatchet teams to head west, but they never made here to San Diego and there were no wholesale firings. So maybe this indicates they are on the prowl again and hitting the west. I guess they would do it now so they don't have as many people to invite to the Christmas party.

Unless there were more moves than just letting Carl Dukes go, and hiring Craig Roberts, I would hardly call this a "blood bath". Is there more? Anybody?

I heard Kat Cortez and Christina Cruz were let go as well. Can't confirm that though.

I really feel for anybody who has been axed, for whatever reason, because I've been there and done that. But as a former employee of that station when Rusk Corp owned it, I can testify that you really feel liberated when you can walk out of that place knowing you don't have to go back. Not unlike somebody getting out of prison. You may not know where your next paycheck is coming from but damn it feels good to be out of there.

Whatever else happens here, I also have to say I'm glad to see that Craig Roberts is back on the air in a prominent slot. His low key off-the-wall personality and dry sense of humor are just too good to keep off the air for very long. Welcome back Craig.

You would be correct...the axe fell in Memphis November 2006, and throughout the whole southeast around the same time. Nearly 15 in Memphis, and I heard total of 500 in SE region. It was one to two weeks before their expected sale (the first time around...)

... and it isnt even Christmas yet. Merry Christmas from Evil Empire. Doesnt it send a message to stockholders when these companies have to ax their TALENT? If your ship is overloaded, you dont throw the ENGINE over. Idiots.

cheap channel and other overblown big corps. owning too much and don't know how to manage them correctly. hopefully later on they will be bought out by other smaller groups.

Did it occur to anyone that the reason a company might be reducing expenses on its AM stations is because in the PPM world AM stations have seen their ratings decrease substantially, and along with them, their ability to generate revenue? Didn't think so.

Funny...the people that got "fired" did they really do anything for the station (rating wise) no. Get over it, it happens, truth is the "blood bath" as you refer to it isn't over yet. Look at these new people that are that are suddenly on the air, soon more will be let go. Hey HERE'S a fun idea! Lets start a pool, all put in 20 bucks and place bets on people that are gonna get axed! Whose in?!?!

I'm getting kinda angry reading some of these posts.

Yes, some of this happened because PPM wasn't very kind to the AM stations.

But that's not all. Clear Channel recently sold off a TON of it's smaller stations, because they "didn't generate enough profit."

And... the station wanted to make sure they were running where they could generate the most profit. ...Stocks, schmocks. Those won't matter very much soon.

I want to clarify that everyone "let go" had important jobs. The person above me says they didn't do anything for the stations... and that's bull, because everyone else now has to try to take on the work they did... as if they weren't worked like a sweat shop before.

And you guys didn't get all the names of people fired...

A few people in the traffic department, which use to have 4 (+) employees

One of the traffic employees VT

And the AM stations.....

Useless. [EDIT]

Why have 4 people doing a job that one or two can do? And when I said they did nothing for the stations...I was talking about ratings.

Go ahead and live in your fantasy world where you have your "imaginary radio station" where RATINGS and MONEY don't matter.

(And try not to get too angry...I heard it causes wrinkles)

* The blood bath is not yet over

[EDIT-inflammatory]

It ticks me off when people look down their nose at the low-pay off-air jobs in radio.

One of the most important Laws of the Workplace says a person's importance to day to day operations is inversely proportional to their position on the organizational chart.

If the CEO-President-Station General Manager takes a six month vacation, his/her absence is hardly noticed. But let 3 people in spot-production or traffic come down with the flu and almost nothing gets done.

So now CC is evil for selling off stations? I thought they were evil for being too big and owning too many. Which is it? You can't have it both ways.

I heard Elizabeth Rose was let go. But maybe that was the same happy dream I had when I thought they put Mark Levin back in his shift on the sleazy 9-5-0...instead of rediculous Phil Hendrie...
