Clear Channel San Jose

Any likely buyers for Clear Channels three stations in San Jose? KCNL-FM, KSJO-FM, and KUFX-FM? Who will pick these stations up. Who would you like to see these stations end up with? Entercom maybe? Ed Stoltz? Harold Camping's Family Radio? lol lol lol....Predictions.....Next Media? Entravision, Univision, SBS, EmpireBroadcasting Group? Well?

Doesn't look like any of the usual suspects will be involved this time. None of them can fit 3 FMs under their ownership limit.

If Mapleton bought them and put KPIG on 92.3, I would be very happy.

but who would program it?? who would be the morning show?? Night show?? HMMMMM

whoever gets the 98.5 frequency...PLEASE BRING BACK KOME!!!

The call sign KOME is parked on an FM in Meridian, TX. Good luck bringing that back...

The pre-alt KOME would be nice to have back in the South Bay, but that'd have to be a "trade name" kinda like "KNBR 1050" is.

How about Bonneville? I would love to see them bring "The Drive" format back to The Bay Area!

Gosh, KGO could use an FM, and 98.5 sounds like a good choice.

I like that idea. Though I live in San Francisco, I can get 98.5 clearly at home; and it also comes in well in my car in many city neighborhoods - so among the South Bay signals, it would be a good choice. But what's the chance Citadel would be willing, given that they are already hemorrhaging money?

KGO-FM

Citadel would be wise to pick up an FM, but I don't think a Class B in the southbay, where KGO-AM puts out it's best coverage is the answer. It needs to be on main bay area FM that covers more area than KUFX. The problem with KUFX is that the building penetration signal is abysmal north of the SF Airport. A signal you can pick up in your specific house in the City or in your car around town will NOT get at home or work ratings. Most of the North Bay and Contra Costa wouldn't be able to receive it due to 98.5 KRXQ in Sacramento. In fact, I've heard KUFX and KRXQ battle in my car on numerous occasions in the San Mateo/Belmont area on the Peninsula. The only hope for Citadel is to acquire an available "full market" FM if there is one. I use quotes because even the grandfathered signals on San Bruno and Beacon don't completely cover this absurdly large (geographically) metro.

What are the chances that the Pacifica Foundation will follow through on their old threat of selling 94.1? They could give a bunch of cash to San Francisco Unified for KALW and then sell 94.1. Hmm.

The fact is...KGO's audience is getting older and is down to 9th place 25-54....Ouch. The only way to improve on that is an FM simulcast...One with a good signal!

ABC, like RKO was stupid to get rid of their San Francisco FM.

Oh David Eduardo? Where are you?

It's not just the size that makes full market FM coverage challanging....the hills and the Bay add their own problems to the mix. Maybe a lurking engineer can elaborate on this a little better.

Here we go! The real issue is that in 25-54 KQED, with its incredibly good grandfathered signal, beats KGO 2 to 1 with a few tenths of a point to spare. KGO can supplement with an FM, or duplicate by adding a major SF signal, one of the marginal SJ signals and a Santa Rosa signal. Lots of money, but with 93.3 rumored for sale, the SJ Clear cluster a must sale, and just about everything in Santa Rosa for sale for a price, they could do it.

Something along the lines of the old KSJO trimulcast, or Double 99, only not on as close a freqs?

Not really, because the KSJO trimulcast and Double 99 were all FM frequencies, used to increase the range of each station. Estereo Sol is doing the same to this day with the same frequencies as Double 99 (98.9 and 99.1)

I'd compare a potential KGO simulcast to dozens of AM/FM simulcasts in the 50s and early-mid 60s when FM by itself was not viable, commercially speaking. Now it's AM that's becoming less viable commercially; though you could argue that AM is still a good venue for talk and news stations.

Or compare to more recent simulcasts when the FM station took the lead, like KFRC in the 90s (99.7/610); or the simulcast in the late 70s early 80s of K-101, when James Gabbert simulcast his FM signal on 1010 AM/KIQI.

I would like to see KSJO go back to there long time rock format, with the Tri-cast of 92.3,92.7&92.1,of course KNGY (Flying Bear broadcasting) would have to buy KKDV as well as KSJO.

Eeek! I could just imagine the Energy 92.7 audience reaction to suddenly be subjected to the T&A mentality of the old KSJO. It gives me the willies....

Leave KNGY alone...Please!

Yes leave Energy 92.7 alone ,the new owner of KSJO should bring Active rock back to San Jose.
