Clear Channel schedule mandates

I've noticed in the Eastern and Central Time Zones many if not most CC stations have schedules that look like this:

Eastern Time:

5AM-9AM: Local morning news/host
9AM-12PM: Glenn Beck
12PM-3PM: Rush Limbaugh
3-6PM: Local host
6PM-9PM: Sean Hannity

5AM-8 or 9AM-Local morning news/host
8 or 9AM-11AM: Glenn Beck
11AM-2PM: Rush Limbaugh
2PM-5PM: Sean Hannity
5PM-8PM: Local host

Just an observation, although isn't a local show scheduled 5-8PM a little off?

WFLA Tampa has Local 6-9 AM, then Beck, Rush, Todd Schnitt, and Sean Hannity. All 3 hour increments.
WIOD Miami is 5 AM-5:45 Jim Bohannon, then local til 10, 10-12 is Glenn Beck, and then it follows the WFLA formula.
WGST Atlanta is all syndication with Smerconish, Beck, Limbaugh, Dave Ramsey, and Mark Levin.
WFLF Orlando follows the formula you suggested until afternoons, when Dave Ramsey takes 3 PM and Todd Schnitt follows.
WFLF-FM in Panama City goes local mornings, into Dennis Miller, then Rush, Schnitt, and then Rick and Bubba.
WTKS Savannah, GA also forgoes Sean Hannity for Dave Ramsey at 3:00, but mornings are what you specified, as is Rush.
WPGB Pittsburgh almost follows the formula, but their morning show Quinn and Rose based at the station is syndicated. The whole station's lineup is.
WERC Birmingham takes an odd route and is local from 6-11 AM. At 11 AM they go to Rush for four hours, then Glenn Beck delayed in afternoons from 3-6.

Sean Hannity is usually the roadblock for your schedule because he's often on a competing station. Many times he's just locked in for now, other times (like WSB Atlanta) it would hurt him to go to the Clear Channel station. If such is the case, many stations will take Dave Ramsey.

And except for WFLF-FM, all these stations play Coast to Coast overnight as well.

I suspect most of those CC outlets carry Fox News radio at the top of the hour as well.

Yes. Clear Channel and Fox News Radio partnered up a few years ago. Premiere Radio distributes the network nationally.

Just curious about this. Wouldn't Levin do better in a live slot? I thought Savage wasn't doing so well these days.

I had worked part time at WILM about 4-5 years ago. At that time Savage pulled in a decent audience for WILM. Can't comment about today as I don't have access to the numbers. WILM picked up Levin and Hannity back when our cross town rival, WDEL dropped Hannity rather than allow ABC radio to force them to take Levin or lose Hannity (WDEL also dropped Rush and went all live and local during the day parts). WILM exercised their option to pick up Hannity along with the side kick show, Mark Levin (as well as Rush). WILM was already airing Savage at 7pm and bumped back Bohannan's show to after Levin rather than airing his show live at 10pm as WILM had been doing since Larry King did the show on Mutual some 30 years ago. WILM had been one of the original affiliates airing the late night talk of Larry King and then Jim Bohannan.

Frankly, if I'd been programming WILM I'd have kept Savage where he is at 7pm and Bohannan live at his 10pm slot and aired Levin at 1am, but as I wasn't involved with the negotiations with ABC radio I have no way of knowing if that option would have accepted.

Would it be fair to say that the CC News/Talk stations that feature a lineup of political talk shows (Rush, Hannity, etc) outnumber the stations that feature advice type shows (Dave Ramsey, Dr Laura, etc) by at least 3 to 1?

I can't imagine Bohannan doing good numbers these days. Be interested to see how he's doing now.

I don't know of any other markets where Clear Channel owns two news/talk AM stations that have also been the two highest rated stations.
