Clear Channel Selling properties and...going private...

Well well well. The Clear Channel Fayetteville stations will be sold before Butler. Who would have thunk it.

I would wonder if they are going to try to sell them by region rather than individually...

I would wonder who would spend $27,000,000 to get into the Jonesboro market again....

AllAccess indicates the Clear Channel cluster in Jonesboro goes to East Arkansas Broadcasters sans KIYS. Not sure if KIYS was supposed to be included or if it's being sold to someone else.

K8 reports that East Arkansas Broadcasters will LMA KIYS FM

Thanks for the information! One has to wonder if East Arkansas will have KIYS very long or if Clear Channel and/or someone else may have something else in store for it. I seem to remember the old KJBR 101.9 being listenable in Memphis in 1993 when I went to school there. However, I'm not sure it could be easily made into a second-tier Memphis station with 102.1 in Sardis and KTRQ 102.3 being somewhat nearby.

I worked for KJBR back then, when we went to "Power 102" on the "Big Stick"... we took the station van down to Beale Street to celebrate... I have fond memories of getting the crap scared out of me by just-released inmates from the city jail across the street, knocking on the windows, asking if we could "play something for the guys in cellblock A..." (Also remember the Pattesons removing the toilet paper over the weekends... that was for Regular Office Staff!")

If anyone is curious, I read the LMA between Clear Channel and East Arkansas Broadcasters, and it looks like Clear Channel is holding onto 101.9 with the idea of moving it. There's a clause that specifically mentions changing the city of license for 101.9, and it gives East Arkansas Broadcasters certain rights to the station depending on whether or not the COL gets changed.

Here's the link to the LMA: http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getattachment_exh.cgi?exhibit_id=465343

Well, it's either "firesale," "overpayment" or a combination of both on Clear Channel's part! Even if they get KIYS moved into Memphis, $22 million is a lot to pay for a rimshot. If they can't move it in, they have to offer it to Caldwell for $2 million.

KIYS was always a strong biller in Jonesboro... that has to be the best radio market in the state. I don't know how the sound will change after the sale, but it will be interesting to see Trey Stafford and Bobby Caldwell as competitors. The one thing that it will help on the sales end is that Bobby can pretty much combo sell the Jonesboro stations with his clusters at Wynne and Walnut Ridge giving the bigger advertisers as much coverage as possible. Heck the only town he won't have a presence in is Blytheville after it is all said and done.
