Clear Channel sells it's TV stations...

Well duh it's not the world! Garrett was over exaggerating the fact that nobody has posted anything on this, although we've known that Clear Channel has had its TV stations on the market for a few months now, and there is a thread on the New York TV board discussing the implications of upstate New York's biggest and popular stations like WHAM and WSYR being sold to a private unknown company.

[EDIT]

[EDIT-namecalling and inflammatory]

Actually, I was referring to the fact that nothing will really change. Clear Channel TV was bought by an investment firm which loads up on a bunch of differnt communication companies, but manages each seperately in the hope of return on investment. It's not like when Westinghouse bought CBS and merged the two units. Here, the sale mean basically nothing, but business as usual.

And what exactly is that for Clear Channel TV stations?
So sorry if I don't nod off at the news.
Not sure why everybody is so bent about my previous post... ???

Pay it no mind - it was a reaction to your statement that a US business transaction was "...the yawn heard round (sic) the world", as if you meant to imply that it was important to the world, which, of course, it isn't. Add an irrational Canadian inferiority complex, and you have instant resentment. Oh well.

BTW, I was referring to the inferiority complex as irrational, not the Canadian, for anyone who might have their noses out of joint by now.

Hi everyone:

I find it interesting that Clear Channel would sell stations affiliated with its own network, yet they make no mention of selling the network itself or dissolving it. Weird...

That said, it will be interesting to see who ends up with the other stations (Particularly in Salt Lake City where not only was ABC affiliate KTVX 4 put on the chopping block by Clear Channel but so is current-CBS O&O KUTV 2, who still doesn't have a new owner).

Thoughts?

Cheers :D

"On February 7 , 2007, CBS Corporation reached an agreement to sell seven of its smaller-market stations, including KUTV and KUSG, to Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., for $185 million. The stations are expected to remain CBS affiliates after the sale."

Thanks for correcting me. :)

But still though, it will be quite interesting to see who lands the KTVX 4 (ABC)/KUWB 30 (CW) duopoly. My money (If I had some) is on Gannett. Why? Because Gannett owns stations in cities of practically all sizes plus they have CW & (mostly) MyNetwork affiliates (Nearly all of them as duopolies of the bigger stations they own).

On top of that, Salt Lake City is listed at #35 while Jacksonville (Where they own an NBC/ABC duopoly) is at #50.

But hey, those are just the thoughts of someone who's just a viewer of the TV news. What are yours (Particularly those who work in the industry)?

Cheers :D

What TV network does Clear Channel own? Do tell. Or were radio stations among those sold?

Morgan, Clear Channel does not own a TV network. They DO own a bunch of TV stations affiliated who are affiliated with practically every OTA network except ION (They basically run the gamut).

THAT is what is being sold.

I know it's easy to bash, poke fun, frown upon, etc....etc. (to) Clear Channel, but if you at least take the time to engage brain BEFORE posting Morgan, it just makes you less of an arse.

Cheers :D

Actually, Clear Channel does own a TV network. It's called the "Variety" network, and, according to the company's press releases, it's on six of the company's TV stations. I know it's on in Albany, NY, but I'm not sure exactly where. I'm thinking it's the Fox affiliate's digital subchannel, though. I don't know which other stations air it.

Then why did you say:

And if you take the time to actually read what you and I actually post before reading something into a post that isn't there, it makes you less of an unintentionally rough character.

It will be very interesting to see how the sale of this station plays out considering they also own WSYR-AM 570.

Cheers :D

Morgan....I went back over my original post three times that I counted and found NO reference to my saying the above comment. Are you sure you aren't somehow misquoting me?
And if you take the time to actually read what you and I actually post before reading something into a post that isn't there, it makes you less of an unintentionally rough character.
I hope that's also the case with you as well.

Well, let's see the line in it's fuller context and maybe it'll become a little clearer:
