Clear Channel should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting JV.

Sell the numbers

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Can't sell ratings even if you were to have them in this business climate so what do you do:
Take advantage of a washed up guy like JV who clearly is going through a midlife crisis and is desperate to feel relevant again. Get him to sign a short term deal for a pitifully low salary to get the company through the recession. If your company makes it through, which Clear Channel will, replace him when spots are sellable again.
Trust me, I know first hand, he is not sellable. His claims that he had good ratings in NYC couldn't be more of a lie. If you want me to paste proof of how low his ratings were at FREE FM in New York I will but the reality is I no longer hate the guy as I had. I just feel really sorry for him.
Cheers

I agree and disagree.

He is not the Doghouse of old. And, even then, most of what he preached about his numbers was b.s.....they got a lot of listeneres, but not ones that advertisers really cared about.

But, he knows the deal and needs a paycheck.

To relate this to sports, there are a lot of baseball players signing one year deals for a lot less than they thought they would get hoping that the economy turns and they can show they are still at the top of their games.

If he comes in, is a good boy, does not make too many non-air staff people cry, maybe he could reinvent himself here and then get a nice gig in Phoenix where the Doghouse legacy is not going to be out there.

From a radio perspective, you may have a point. But if you look at the overall economy right now, there are now millions of people out of work who would volunteer to be "exploited" for a living wage. And while JV's salary may be a fraction of what The Doghouse was getting at the height of their popularity, I suspected it's WAY higher than the average American wage.

The guy's getting a second chance. If he attracts an audience, Clear Channel will keep him - or he can get a better gig at another station. Poor guy. Boo-hoo.

we cant have u talk and not call you out on it... lets see your proof sir... or let me guess u dont have to prove anything to me?

Lighten up on Both J.V. and Clear Channel.
He needed a job, they needed a Morning DJ. He has a track record in the market. If "using him" means giving him a gig with a modest salary to see if he gets ratings, sounds like radio to me. If he gets ratings they either pay him or he has a success to get some other station to pay him.

Please expose who you are, you have hated on JV and the doghouse sense your first post. I could care less about the numbers in NY i believe they pulled in a .9 or so in middays in a market they were not promoted in....

I would like proof of the short term contract and LOW salary. Not sure who you are or who you think you are but I am guessing you competition... you just won't say who you are.... you never answer the hard questions .... whoe are you, where is the proof of the salary and short term contract.

They do have a good amount of posters and flyers scattered in different parts of the city actually, saying JV is back...

Same guy that thinks T-man was great....Go figure...

I'm not a guy. I'm a lady who formerly worked for CBS Radio sales in NYC while JV and Elvis did their show there. They thought they were great but had nothing to back it up. Putrid ratings and bad attitudes make for a lousy combination. A trained chimp can sit in front of a mic and get a 1 AQH share. And they want to pretend it was all because they weren't promoted? Please. First off management grew to be too embarrassed of them to promote them. Second of all they had no ability to make anyone in the audience laugh. They resented Opie and Anthony (who had their own problems) but JV and Elvis not only had 1/3 of O&A's ratings they were by far the lowest rated show on Free FM.
I will not say where I am working now but I'm still doing well in the radio industry.
Wishing all the best.

i dont even know why we waste time talking about them, its a crap show thrown together because of Mike Martin being at CBS, i watched the videos online of JV and he's an idiot, the rest of the jokes err jocks are doing the rest of the day shifts at wild anyways...

my .02 cents

they should have put big boy on the air ... it would have been cheaper and done better.

wasnt JV fired for a drugged out rant about a fat girl anyways... wow thats cool.

Yeah it wont be but a few weeks before they realize they rehired a unfunny junkee.
