CLEAR CHANNEL TARGETING PROGRAM DIRECTORS?

From Jerry Del Colliano's Inside Music Media:

"There is now evidence from people who work at Clear Channel that a massive purging of program directors is coming. New technology being implemented currently is going to make it possible for Clear Channel to rid itself of program directors in all but the most critical situations."

In the CC world, you don't really need PDs anymore. It's all automated and since they're doing their best to make every station sound the same all you really need is one person who can tweak the music selection software every now and then and really how tough can that be?

The business of producing radio content has changed forever, people need not apply.

Clear Channel Philadelphia continues to be different. Radio 104.5, Mix 106.1, WDAS-AM.

These are some extremely unique stations, even stranger is they're CC. Although they're from AMFM Licenses.

What are the formats? And do they truly capture the essence and feel of what makes Philly, Philly? We used to have a truly unique Austin station (KVET) that stood out among the crowd and captured the flavor of what used to make the city of Austin special (BAWC = Before Austin Was Californicated) that has been turned into every other mind-numbing 80-90's mediocre country music station.

Truely only one does, WDAS-AM is one of Philly's heritage stations. (WDAS-AM is Soul)

Radio 104.5 is "paving" the future of alternative rock. It's got quite a bit of buzz about it on the Alternative Boards.

Mix is different for CC because (although it is only two years old) it's got a Dance Show, Sunday nights. One of the members on our board organizes it (Dancerev88). It's a Hot AC.

Sadly, Clear Channel is caring less about maintaining the heritage of the many stations it owns in Philly, despite the cities recent "comeback" in population and economical growth.

Perhaps someone can give you a better rundown.

CC should just get out of the radio market, let someone try to make it good again.

I truly love this comment from Angel Aristone of CC "Like every successful business, our strategy continues to evolve as we move forward as a company and that creates some new jobs, and unfortunately eliminates others. "

I wonder exactly how many new jobs CC's strategy has created? We can count the thousands of folks and jobs CC has eliminated.
