Did anyone catch that all 7 CC stations were off-air shortly after 9a this morning? Talk about a major meltdown!

The lack of reply seems to be an indication that nobody (or very few) listen to Clear Channel Stations, or at least not at that time of the day. ;)

Maybe its because stuff happens such as UPS failures, etc that are not easily avoidable.. Everyone is quick to blame Clear Channel when you can't make technology work 100%

Even if they had CD players and live jocks 24/7 you cant avoid things failing... I suspect Clear Channel was on the ball and that their IT and Engineering crew had things back up fairly quickly.

I am sure most listeners realize "stuff happens" I bet WNCI, WTVN and WCOL each still has more listening to silence than some of the other stations in town :)

Member V. Riley has a rather verbose view of the overall cume of this hobbist web site. No one replied inside of an hour? I was still busy helping to get all the various air signals and streams back to their proper state. Oh yes, and that little air shift I do.

How did others spend that hour? Mr./Ms. V. Riley?

Just wondering,
JbC

PS: UPS failure is correct, not that anyone doubted Mark.

V. Riley...

Have you ever paid any attention at all to the ratings in this city? I have a feeling that Clear Channel is quite happy with their listenership in Columbus. I mean, 3 of their stations have been battling EACH OTHER for the top spot for quite some time. I'm guessing other radio groups and single stations in market would kill for that kind of share. Agreed?

I don't mean to sound all "pro Clear Channel" or anything. Just being honest.

Gee,

How smart is is to have ALL of your stations on one UPS?

Leave Vince alone...

Jake:

How many master UPS units would you recommend? (Seven may not be the correct answer.)

Good to see the Re/Max sign gone, when is the "future home" sign going to follow?

JohnBoy,

I am not an engineer. Maybe I should have just stayed out of this one...

When you going to stop by for a tour? I am in by 11:30.

Jake

what part of "master" don't you get ? not to come off brusk, but c'mon. why get angry at Johnboy, Jake ?
Mr. Riley got on here and started a hate string about Clear Channel..talking about his personal hatred against Clear Channel.
It's amazing that people get on here and rant about the most petty and USELESS things. do you think this hasn't happened to the river? or any other group in town?

folks need to start using this forum for more positive discussions.

Johnboy: if it's any consolation, people always take on the top dogs in town

Jake

I've learned that despite best efforts, there will always be points of failure that can shut down an entire facility.
A generator battery dies at the worst time, servers go down- things happen. I have horror stories of my own.

The better question is- How well prepared is the engineering staff to recover from such events when they occur. Greg and his staff are second to none. Because of this, downtime is rare and counted in minutes- not hours or days.

I believe JBC and any other staffers would agree. Right?

One supposed purpose of the emoticons is that they can replace the ever-important vocal inflections and non-verbal cues you can add when speaking on the phone or face-to-face. You can say the exact same words, and come across with two completely different meanings depending on how you say it. But I agree, AugC, that the recipient of a written communication will tend to focus more on the words, especially if its something that touches a nerve or if the writer has been critical in the past. If I wrote something like that I would be more likely to add the words, "just kidding," or maybe add another sentence that is self-effacing. Or consider whether it's something that's appropriate to write in the first place (emoticon or not), especially in a public forum.

Nobody was being nasty...I was just wondering about putting all of ones "eggs" in the same basket. I would not plug all of my home computers into one UPS.

Dangit Jim I am a DJ not an engineer that is why I am gracefully backing out of this conversation.

Mark, you are right about Greg...He IS the best.

Coming from an IT stand point, almost all large orgs have a main big UPS that covers all mission critical services. This usually sits between the Mains power and the circuits inside (outlets etc.)

Roo: if you write Emoticons For Dummies, I'll read it. (I never knew they meant anything other than smiles.)

Jake: no harm, no foul, and I'm on the air middays. Maybe on the way home when I pick up Mr. Wok.

Mark: a couple three minutes. G-man is programming's biggest asset.

AugC: all the guns must point to the top of the hill. We both know that's the way it works.

Matt: nothing wrong with small UPS after big UPS, either. I think Ghostbusters needed that kind of redundancy!
