Clear Channel to flip multiple stations in Atlanta

Paul, I am not claiming to be a heavy weight in radio. I don't care about MediaMogul! I was just passing along info for the 10th time. I try not to get myself involved in a dying media such as radio, I have moved on and so should all of the other losers on here who keep picking apart my comments.

Welcome to the Atlanta board. :-D

We's don't take too kindly to strangers 'round these here parts.

This post is very similiar to one about a year ago or so that said the same thing. I believe at the time it was either talking about CC or 99x. Same scenario. Myu friend who is a big advertiser. I believe that one wasn't true either. I am not saying this might not be true but this post is very familiar.

Media buyers aren't the first to know, or hear about a flip. Stations don't go around telling them they are about to change their formats.

Actually it does happen occasionally. Not frequently, certainly not always, but it does happen.

In the past 2-3 years, I've been notified 6-8 before a couple of times, 12-24 hours before a few times, and 72 hours or so maybe once.

Of those notifications, about half the time I got it ahead of the "confirmed rumors" hitting the street, and the other half within a few hours of seeing the same basic info (minus the station spin) either in the trades or on rumor sites like here.

And on at least two occasions, I had confirmation about a flip before my reps knew themselves. Now those are some awkward conversations when I call to check on a schedule or make changes and the rep has no idea what I'm talking about.

Hmm.. someone posting about a supposed flip "from a trusted friend"... and this is his first post.. hmm.. how credible!!

I think he is much more "credible" than someone with over 1000 posts! (sarcasm implied.)
While I think Polka 640 is a brilliant idea, I am still waiting for All Background Talk to hit the ATL.

Don't tell me that my friend Jennifer Reed moved from Dallas to Atlanta in October only to have the station change formats on her.

i don't think anyone who is in a position to make the change or changes will concern themselves with details like that. it's all about the money.. honey!

I know that jackrocks.....always has been....always will be.......the only difference is, it used to be fun before big corporations got involved and limits were lifted with regards to ownership.

I'd listen to polka... it is the one format that I don't have on XM. Also, I can pick up 640 at night... so, I'm in.

I think we have identified enough folks right here to see a 100% gain in 640 listenership if they flip to polka.

So, if we took all the people in this thread alone who wanted polka on 640.. it'd what.. triple their current audience? :)

A lot of good folks (the ones still left) are trying their best at GST. The weak night signal to the burbs is a problem, but Clear Channel is the real issue.

I like to hide behind the weak signal myself, even though it was the same signal that brought in twice the number of listeners before I began my "reign of error".

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? STATIONS ON THE BLOCK?? MARK MY WORDS, THERE WILL BE NO MORE 96 ROCK!!! TELL ME AT THE END OF THE WEEK THAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

It's the end of the week....no changes. You don't know what you are talking about.

Clearly. You've moved on so much that you are posting rumors on a radio info board. That is precisely the behaviour of someone who has "moved on".

Sorry I guess I was a little off, but always right! Maybe you should look into believing people sometimes, it works, I swear!

He was right - and for one, I am shocked that the HERITAGE sation in this market would flip monikers...but in truth, it needed to re-identify and grow into in bigger audience. 96 Rock was a well served entity, but like all good things it must pass on. No one was tending to the garden, no one was growing the brand relative to the local market, and there were bad decisions all around. TRG's second coming could have been a boon to the station but it wasn't. To be quite honest, they (the CC management) forgot about the Rock. At least the new brand "Project 9-6-1" seems to include the younger demo and will hopefully grow into a power station.

Some consultant is shaking his head somewhere and saying "It was about time".
