Clear Channel Trimming the fat...

Heard today that the Promotions Director position and one of the main dudes in Creative Services at CC-GSO had their jobs eliminated this week. Although somewhat of a shock at who they were, I think CC is bleeding pretty badly. Both employees have been there for years and drew nice fat paychecks....the kiss of death for middle management folks at CC. Anyway, Mark West, a talented creative person will now be looking for a job. If you have any openings in that area, Mark is one of the great ones. Don't think you'd want the big promotions gal...I hear she's pretty high maintenance.

pardon me for repeating what has been said about this disgusting company on practically every board on this site, but...

THAT IS A LOW-DOWN, AWFUL THING TO DO AT CHRISTMAS TIME!

I wish the best to these talented folks and my heart just hurts for them.

How do you do that at this time of year and to Mark of all people. One of the most professional, genuine, radio loving people I have ever known. A real pro. Maybe that is why they let him go. They knew he was way above them.

Word on the street is that these two are just the beginning of many slayings to come. Not to mention the people who want the heck out of there anyway.

Clear Channel, classy move.

Looks like CC-GSO subscribes to the Bernie Mann school of management! Or for that mater Bent Miller. Bent enjoyed firing people at Christmas. Let a huge amount of the 98.7 staff go just before Christmas. Any of those people lurking around here?

What is it with radio and pre-Christmas firings? Because it's not just Cheap Channel Greensboring. It happens everywhere. Sometimes I think we work in one of the most heartless industries this side of a Nike sweatshop in China.

Cheap Channel - another great GOP Texan corp! :(( I really pity any and all that are forced to worked for them because they love radio :( And for them to pull this sh*t during the holidays! Another reason the FCC needs to put regs back as if that will ever happen :(

Budget time.

this kinda crap makes me think I may be lucky to be bottom of the totem pole. The won't fire me, I don't make any money! muah hah haaa!

hey...whatever I gotta say to myself to ease justify being in this biz...

Nobody is FORCED to work for them. Working for CC, you should know that you could be fired, anytime.
I don't know how anybody could love radio THAT much.

In LA they just fired 20 people! Including two 22 year on air people.

By the way....who got fired from the Simon?
It wasn't Simon then. It had been taken over by Entercom and was still operating from the old studio. While it had been a while it was really obvious and sad that the firing was held off till just before Christmas. Good friend got the axe, with a bunch of others. Couldn't believe it cause just 2 weeks before that, this person had an opportuity to move to another job figuring there would be heads on the chopping block. (with the buyout and all) Asked up front and honestly what the situation was and was told not to worry. Then 2 weeks later after turning down the other job, heads rolled. That's the kinds crap radio gives to hard workers. Ya, I'm pissed off and so many of you just roll over like stoned puppies. Radio is a crappy business today because of the many in the past who instead of doing something just rolled over like stoned puppies. Go ahead and attack me but it's the truth. I guess I forget that this is a forum for cheerleaders and not an open discussion of the downs as well as the highs.

Does anyone know who the promotion person that was cut?

Her name is Shannon Sopina. Been with CC a LONG time. Was always one of the cliquish insiders with Management. Really chummy with Morgan Bohannon. I think she was even a "Department Head". That's why her "job elimination" was such a shock to so many people.

This is the time of year that they find out what budgets are approved for 2008. Obviously, not everything got approved. The new GM was forced to take a hard look at who was expendable. It's only logical. As sad as it is right before the holidays, I'm sure it's just one of the realities of being in Management for a major corporation. The stations are under-performing. They've been under a lot of attack this past year.

Some post in this thread have been moved to Take It Outside.

Yes 4th quarter last quarter. I guess they could have let them go on New Years eve....

I think to say she was clique-ish is an understatement and from what I understand expendable is too....The structure there is, if told to me correctly, her as the boss over three or four promotions directors....that is expendable to say the least.
