Clear Channel whine

Did anyone catch the article from AP about Clear Channel wanting the station ownership limits to be relaxed further? It contains a quote by the President/CEO Mays how they are being hurt by satellite radio....and how their profits are being squeezed...all at a time when they are shrinking with their presence in San Diego. And haven't they screwed up the radio broadcasting industry enough with their bland, bland, over-researched over-produced programming?

Here's a link to the article:

Well, let's be clear about who we are referring to when we discuss Clear Channel wantiong limits relaxed.

Here, we are not talking about all the fine folks who make up all the stations that the company owns. What we are worried about here is the executive board, the shareholders, and Lawry Mays.

I don't see how owning more stations would be either permittable, nor would it be a good thing for clear channel. It just doesn't make sense.

But lets not loop all the people who work at Clear-channel in on this. It's a small few execs at the top of this oligarchy who think they should rule all.

And let's either confine this thread to the CC Sandy Eggo cluster, or join the thread on the National board ...
______________

Oh come on...they ARE absolute whiners nationwide or otherwise. Shame on them. If the perks they got by way of deregulation "public policy" via their friends in the government in the 90's weren't enough, technology goes and makes all those hard-lobbied changes in the law irrelevant! Oh, the injustice of it all.

C.C. would rather lobby and whine about new technologies instead of trying to combat them with the resources they have by concentrating on creating GOOD programming...but C.C.'s not interested in that, of course...that would require EFFORT and elbow grease!

Hint to C.C.: undo all the homogenization you've forced on the ears of the nation, because you are reaping what you sow. Wah.

Clear Channel should just stop whining about being worried
about competetion from satellite, and coming soon, portable
wireless Internet radio, and do something more intelligently
such as hiring music directors who are not deaf towards good music
and programmers who have a well rounded music culture education.
Older people (myself included) can pony up the money to have our cars
fitted with this new kind of technology, which would really be trouble
for Clear Channel who have no idea how to compete for them, only finding
themselves programming more of the likes of KIIS or News/Radio or other common generic formats over and over again and again.

Maybe Clear Channel should just sell their stations to independents and get out of the radio business. They're single-handedly ruining radio, making the younger listeners favor downloads instead of radio for learning about new music.

LAST WORD FROM THE MODERATOR

If this discussion doesn't stay focused on San Diego, it will be closed.

If you want to talk about the nationwide implications of Clear Channel's proposal, there is a thread on the National Coast to Coast board.
______________

I do, the management does, and if you need to ask that question you don't understand the concept of a local board.

The point is that this thread was NEVER about San Diego. And it didn't become one even after I asked for it to.
