Clear Channel - Who will Stay, Who Will be Let Go

Some say CC will keep the best sales reps and compensate them wilth accounts of the sales rep leaving with the pink slip.

Doesn't match with what one of the manager had to said while having some drinks after office hours at Green Iguana over on Westshore Blvd recently.

The theory is to let go the reps with most billing and have the managers take those accounts as House Accounts, this way not having to pay for the commission. More work for managers; that's for sure so they aren't thrilled, but it's all about saving money.

And for those who thought it was the rookies who will be let go, you are into a big surprise.

Many agencies dislike the fact of dealing with several reps anyway, so here you go. A managef will handle your particular account for the cluster. That will seem to work just fine and Clear Channel keeps the commission.

So, all of those years of building a relationship between sales rep and client/agency, will all go down the toilet.

That would be so stupid on CC's part. One of the problems with radio is that they throw rookie sales reps on the streets... who have no idea how to prospect and are just trying to get anyone to sign up. They are so desperate to get a new client that they put the business on a station with the wrong demo and an ineffective schedule. Then that client says "radio doesn't work."
If they do indeed let go the Best AE's... go find a different sales job. Sales is sales. Same skill set, no remotes on weekends and weeknights.

A friend of mine used to manage the Apollo Beach cable operation. He likes to tell the story of a crackerjack salesman who was knocking down some serious money. So serious that a bean counter called to tell him he had to cut the salesman's commission. The reason? "He's making more than you are." My friend's response? "He's worth more than I am." It's amazing to me that anyone could think that cutting top billing AE's could be an effective cost saving measure, but I guess we'll see.
