Clear Channel Working On KEX FM Translator Signal

Not too long ago, Clear Channel started simulcasting KEX (1190 AM) on an FM translator at 102.3 FM. This is partly in response to KXL (750 AM & 101.1 FM) making the same move shortly prior to. Some have noticed that the signal does not go far, especially with another station not too far away sharing the same frequency.

This weekend, the Oregonian reports that Clear Channel is awaiting approval from the FCC "to boost its weak, 100-watt" signal.

100 watts vs. 100,000 on 102.3. An interesting David vs. Goliath situation.

I don't know where this came from but it isn't possible, in the way it's presented. Translators don't just become full power stations and never on a second adjacency! The other thing is that KEX had been planning the translator move for months and KXL's change just happened suddenly, cutting off the KUFO morning jock, in mid sentence.

OK, I momentarily forgot that they were broadcasting from Mt. Scott. It looks like they want to move to Skyline, which would definitely improve coverage to the west side but I don't see an application yet.
