Clear Channel

Clear Channel is still way too large to be managed effectively. Their business model is no longer valid. Even after spinning off hundreds of stations, they are still too large to manage, just ask Bain-Lee! The 2000 merger of AM-FM and Clear Channel was the largest mistake the company has made. Up to the time of that merger, Clear Channel had only around 65 to 70 stations and they were growing that number slowly enough to get a handle on running the properties with some success. However, after the 2000 merger, it was just chaos. That merger should have never been approved by the FCC. And, just remember, it happened under the "Clinton" administration. Clinton signed the 1996 Telecommunications act, which allowed the CCU , AM-FM merger to take place. Remember that when you vote in November!

Oh really? That's not what Bain-Lee is saying.

Actually, I would say GROSSLY overpaying for radio properties was THE biggest mistake they made. Alot of those huge buys never panned out for them financially.

Do I detect a cup of red Kool-Aid being passed around? While Clinton did sign the telcom bill, I beleive the work was actually the product of the house and senate which were both dominated by the Republicans in '96. One other fine point that many people tend to overlook.... with all its obvious warts Clear Channel is profitable.

Quoting Michael Oxley in 2000, (R) Ohio 4th District; "You do know that unless large corporations run radio, that radio will cease to exist. There are too many stations going off the air."
