Clear Channel's OM in Sac headed for Bay Area

Ken Kohl has just left KFBK in Sacramento and the company memo says he's off to program with a broadcaster in the Bay Area. Anyone have any ideas with whom? One in-house rumor at KFBK was that he was off to KCBS. How would a longtime conservative approach in Sacramento work with a longtime successful Infinity formula for news radio? What changes might occur? Is he even going there, or does this fuel speculation of hot talk rumors on 106.9?

Oh sorry, they're going mainstream CHR. (Ahem)

Talk radio was NEVER meant to be on the FM, only music should be on the FM, just look at the old 957 KPIX how long did that last???? so it's gotta be another music format........hmmmmm......what is the bay area missing???? CHR!!!!

If you are going to throw on Hannity, Dr. Laura, and Savage on FM, no it probably won't work here in SF.

But, Stern is all talk and carries a NYC station. Opie and Anthony were all talk and carried an FM talker in New York. Don & Mike carry an FM talker in the #8 market.

107.7 is the only station to carry all the Niner games.

It is proven in other markets that if done correctly, non-music can work on FM.

It is unwise to reason with anyone who can't see beyond their personal tastes. Of course, I agree with you, but I'm sure you're going to get an argument from a cheerleader or three.

Kohl also programmed KNEW and KQKE for CC in San Francisco. He could indeed be headed to KCBS, but KNBR is without a PD since Agnew was cut loose...

I agree that it would be great if we all could just come out with our own personal agenda to start with each post, kind of like a personal ad. Hi! My name is Mr. Radio Guy. I like sports and hot talk!

I have ripped the DogHouse in several past posts, and have an agenda against people pumping them up. I kind of said what I currently do a couple posts ago, and I would never buy time on a DogHouse show unless a cell phone by the minute company called me. I have seen their numbers and listened to the show. I went from a casual listener to someone that thinks they are not top 50 market worthy. It just seems like there are several people out there on this board, changing their screen names everytime they pump them up and it does not come true.

My bias is I think 106.9 would be served well by a total non-music show. Someone a little more mature than O&A, someone a little less mature that Don & Mike. Something like a Tolbert & Barbieri minus the sports. In my opinion, try to put a show like that on in a drive time and build around that.

I know this is unorthodox but how do I get in touch with you? I have some questions for you.

Infinity's new OM from Clear Channel Sac suggest new format for 106.9

Ken Kohl, who left AM talkers KFBK and KSTE after a 12-year run, is reportedly the new Ops manager for KCBS and the new signal on 106.9

Let's hear it for that new CHR format! (Apparently not)

First speculation rumor --if the new signal is going hot talk, someone's going to speculate that KK will try to lure Armstrong and Getty from KSTE in Sac. Nothing's out of the realm of possibility but that's unlikely --that duo is well-rooted in Sacramento, their families like it there, and their product may not have the same appeal in SF.

Oh, there's always the Doghouse. Let's hear from one of their plants!

Not much to program on AM910 & AM980 unless they program digital, which won't have a market for a number of years.

Paul, I didn't understand this post ... and where is AM980?
