While that's true, I find that those two words, "hybrid digital", also happen to be the two words that most easily create a bumper-sticker explanation for it when I tell people how I can have a radio station where there's already a radio station.
It used to go something like this:
Me: So did I mention I'm running a radio station?
Other person: Oh? Which one?
Me: It's an HD station called Altrok 90.5 HD2
Other person: Yeah? I listen to 90.5 The Night all the time - good for you!
Me: Well, thanks, but actually, it's another channel on the same station...
Other person: (Head explodes trying to grasp the concept.)
People are starting to get used to the "subchannel" concept on OTA TV here in the close-enough-to-NYC-to-receive-it area, so it's becoming a bit easier...note that it's *not* becoming easier because of any growing awareness of HD radio. Thankfully, people *are* becoming more aware of the station itself, at least online, so I'm hoping that translates into the broadcast space.
That said, when all's said and done, I'm programming for listeners. I'm not really concerned *how* they get to me.
