Clear Channel's Real Oldies Format

Here in Philly it's WDAS 1480, they play classic soul and some 50's r&b. it is 99% automated with the exception of Bobby Holiday 6am to 12 noon.

The term Oldies but Goodies also got exposure from Little Caesar and The Romans
1961 hit on Del-Fi."Those Oldies but Goodies Reminds me of You"

I have a copy of that one. The songwriter obviously flunked English, using "reminds" with a plural subject! By the way, the piano player on that song was Charles Wright, who, eight years later, would form the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and have hits with Express Yourself and Love Land.

Here is a discussion of the word "Oldies" that credits the aforementioned Art Laboe with coining "oldies but goodies" in 1957: http://audials.com/en/genres/oldies.html

The unnamed author says "oldies" are from the 1960s-70s and "golden oldies" are from the 1950s-early 1960s. Songs from the '80s are "retro." Gee, I'm glad he cleared that up!
