This poor little station has been mistreated by its parent company. It hasn't been listed in the Arbitron Ratings since back when it was Oldies KOOL 1280. It is hard to believe how much of a powerhouse this station was in the 1970's and 1980's under its former owner JOSEPH GAMBLE STATIONS INC and its hard working manager and part owner, ORT LOFTHUS. Now it seems that this station is a waste of a power bill. This morning, instead of its usual simulcast of ARMSTRONG & GETTY from KSTE-650 ( which by the way, comes in strong in Stockton, so why this simulcast?), there was a DUAL SIMULCAST, of both KFIV-1360 AND KFBK-1530. Yes, the garbled audio of BOTH stations. If you ever check out the websites of the other CC Modesto-Stockton Stations, there is no mention of this station. You go to their studios on Lancey Drive in Modesto, On the door are the logos of KFIV, KOSO, KMRQ, KQOD and KJSN but no KWSX. In fact, KWSX does not have a website for themselves. Extremely Sad! In my opinion, CC should just pull the plug on this station and let it go dark. No Big Loss!

CC does not seem to care. The last time they put some effort was in 2006, when they resumed their simulcast with KFIV and called their station K-SIX. Soon after wards, CC just dropped the K-SIX logo, just referring to them as AM 1280 (NEWSTALK 1360 K-FIVE & AM 1280). When they switched to LA PRECIOSA, they were simply a repeater for KMRQ-96.7. The same when KMRQ changed to Active Rock, 1280 simply changed. Then finally in February, They became NEWSTALK 1280, but only simulcasting BOTH KSTE and KFBK. With all of the options of TALK-RADIO I don't know why they can't try any of them like Fresno with 4 Talk stations KMJ, KMJ-FM, KYNO, and 105.5 The Truth, or go syndicated OLDIES like 1550 in SF.

Yeah, it IS sad what the former 1280 KJOY has been allowed to become. A & G is a waste of a power bill if you ask me.

There is much, much more to this than you realize. There are many stations that are purposely being ran into the ground with bad programing or reduced in power, or whatever it takes to make them appear to be non-viable as a buisness. It's all about greed, but more specificaly about EAS and FEMA funds. The new administration is actively looking for radio stations to put a new digital private and public warning system in place. This new system will be multi language and multi-level and has been toyed with since 911. Now there is real activity and real money allocated for the project. The rumor is that small stations, ones that aren't making money (or appear that way) will be offered a nice lease income from the Feds to run a digtal signal on an "HD-4" channel. (You may have wondered why these little pip-sqeaks were so quick to add HD signals). NPR was all opposed to an HD power increase until yesterday, all of the sudden they are all for it! Why? How about a sudden huge donation from an un-disclosed entity. Normally such a huge donation would be investigated, just watch, there won't be any investigation this time. So it would seem that NPR is no better than the big guys when it comes to corporate greed, now the're in bed with the Feds. From what I understand the HD-4 signal will be ran with a "Whisper" protocol, somtimes called "WSPR". Some guy at Princeton got a huge bonus for the software. Ever wonder how the Iraqis detected our stealth fighters??? It was a Russian weak signal detection program, WSPR is our answer to that. I digress. WSPR (do a search and you will find some strange stuff, mostly diss-imformation) does not work well at high power levels. This is why we are seeing 50KW AM stations being reduced to 10kw or less, and some FMs being reduced in power.
WSPR is a beacon system that ham radio operators use to determine if propagation conditions are favorable to various parts of the world. It's open source, and probably nothing that Ibiquity would want to deal with. I know anything is possible, but this concept seems a little far-fetched. If the govt. was really interested in developing a new warning system why would there be so much interest in Advanced EAS?
CC has trouble finding programming for lots of their stations. I think the OP has it right on. They just don't want to spend the money to give Stockton a local talker.

My research indicates that WSPR is really a CIA system for mind control using very low power over long distances. Michael Jackson was writing a song about about the subject and suddenly he is taken out. Bankruping him and bleaching his skin with Veloperizing rays was not enough I guess. If you can't see the truth you probably live near a "cell tower" which is actuall a brainwashing system using quazzle emmisions. (Alien technology discovered at area 51 and developed in secrecy at area 78). I am immune to these forces due to the tin foil in my hat and underware. I got to go, will write more later, the guards are comming and I don't want them to take my crayons again.....

part of 1280 and do something worthwhile with it if CC had any concern for it...
At least there are three or four of us who givadam about 1280 and its heritage...

CC's Donate 4 stations, however not KWSX
According to All Access today, Clear Channel is donating 4 of its AM Radio Stations to a Minority Media Group. All of those stations are currently silent. However I am surprised that CC didn't donate KWSX-1280 too. If CC doesn't give a D*mn about this station, they should either donate it or let it go silent.

Stockton is so under-radioed that a ton of listening goes to stations outside of the market. Many of which have signals that otherwise are to weak to get Arbitron diary mentions, but do get mentions because people probably try a little harder to pick up stations in Stockton.

I just find it funny that the stations that are simulcasted on KWSX happen to be stations we can receive loud and clear, KSTE-650 and KFBK-1530. And it is funny that you will hear the KSTE calls and KFBK calls throughout the day but only the Legal calls of KWSX as wells as NEWSTALK 1280 only on the hour. I don't think anyone is trying harder to pick up KWSX. And the other mystery station is KSTN-1420 that is dubbed "Stockton's Sports Leader" yet when there is not a game being played, KSTN is playing Classic Hits of the 1970's and 1980's, mostly of the Harder Rock Classics, songs that are normally played on the FM Dial. Why, KSTN isn't a Full Fledged Sports Station like Modesto's ESPN 970 (KESP) is beyond me?Michael Rivers Kramer said:
