Clear Channel's "Rush Radio"

As you have probably heard, CC is launching a pair of conservative-talk FM stations on WRDU in Raleigh and WGBT in Greensboro. Although WGBT is still Spanish for now, there is a separate website for the new station at www.rushradio945.com. Meanwhile, WRDU, formerly known first as 106.1 The Rooster, and, as of May 2009, 106.1 RDU Country, has officially dropped its country format and is now playing all-Christmas as "106.1 RDU Christmas" (see the updated logo at www.1061rdu.com) before the official change takes place after New Year's.
I wonder if the Rush Radio wave will spread westward toward this area?

Due to the fact CBS just launched WBCN, and WBT is pretty solid in this market, I don't see CC doing that. CC doesn't seem to have the problems in Charlotte that they do in Raleigh and Greensboro.

Does anyone else remember "WRDU 106" when it was an AOR station?

The biggest mistake CC did was take rock off of 106.1. They could have tweaked it and done well, but what's done is done.

And no, I don't see CC bringing Rush Radio to Charlotte because of WBT and WBCN. WBT will everything it can to keep Rush on its station.

I remember WRDU quite well back in the late 80's as a rock station when I was at the Marine Corps Air Station New River near Jacksonville. Their signal would come in quite strong most of the time there, as would other stations like WRAL (101.5) and the former Oldies 100.7 (WTRG).

When is Rush's contract up with WBT?

Doesn't matter, I think Rush has been on BT since 1990 and BT is a prestigious sort of station to be on. Rush isn't going anywhere.

That's what they would say about WPTF too.

Nowhere near as prestigious as 1110.

My guess is WBT is more prestigious in Charlotte, and WPTF is more prestigious in Raleigh.

CC owns the Rush show (Premiere), they can not renew him with 'BT when his contract is up, like they did with 'PTF.

One thing to consider, stations pay for Rush, it's not barter. Let's say WBT pays 100K a year for Rush.
And, has to give up 100K in local inventory to Premiere. When CC takes the Rush show for one of it's stations, they're DOWN 200K right out of the gate. Smart? Maybe, maybe not.

Who ever claimed that CC was smart?

With the size and talk dominance of CC, you don't think they and Premeire have worked out a "friend" rate? Look, I'm just sayin', CC didn't earn the nickname "Cheap Channel" for nothin'
