Clear Country and Gator

How about a bit of history for all of you?

From what I gather in previous posts, Gator is being forced by Clear Channel to stop using gator country. Clear Channel does not care about the phrase, except that they broadcast Gator sports on 930 The Fox, also the Flagship station for Gator sports.

Marshal Howell is formally the PD of 930 The Fox. He is also very close to the Gator organization. Marshal is the love affair of Gail Austin, who just so happens to be the Director of Programming of Clear Channel Jacksonville. Where Renda is beginning to catch up with CC's 2 country stations.

It is no coincidence that Marshal and Gail are involved with this. They are even living together in Ponte Vedra now. They are known as a couple and don't hide it.

I'm sure that Marshal pulled some strings and made a few calls to help the love of his life out and don't be surprised if you see something from the Gator organization soon directed to Renda.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.

Gator

In what way is "Renda beginning to catch up with CC's 2 country stations"?
It sure as heck isn't in the ratings. It's not in revenue, either (yes, 99.9
supposedly has some business on the air, but at what- $10 a holler?).

> Where Renda is beginning to catch up with CC's 2 country stations.

Re: Gator

And per inquiry spots. Spots that run no charge and the agency only pays for what they can track. PI spots are a crock but start ups are often forced to take it for a time. It's going to take time, 2-3 years before 99.9 really turns the corner. Billboards and TV advertising is a plus and will make gator turn around quicker.

Plus so many advertisers hate the way CC has dealt with them and are calling the station to get on the air. Plus there is NO Per Inquiry on the station at all.

Know your facts before you speak.

Re: Gator

Bet if you include their "gimmes" with actual paid spots, a ton of them are as previously stated. Even if they're getting $40 a spot, it's still at nearly giveaway level for a Jacksonville "player". $40 wouldn't buy you a peek at WQIK's rate card, much less buying time.

And, Dr. Radio never did respond to the question about his statement- perhaps you can:

*** Where Renda is beginning to catch up with CC's 2 country stations.

Re: Gator

Renda does not NC any spots. Not even overnights. So there are no "gimmes".

Is Renda catching upi to CC to early to see. In the last trends both WQIK and WROO were down A25-54. Where did they go? They didn't show up on WGNE.
WGNE will only have about six weeks in the Spring book so summer will be the true first test.

Re: Gator

So a few advertisers have called Gator, just like they the call Jazz and the religious stations. If WROO, a station with a 3.0 in market 49 is getting around $40.00 for M-F 6A-7P, then radio is starving and nobody is making Money. can't even feed a few jocks and might as well go Satellite. But an average of $40.00 sounds ok for M-S 5a-5a. Rates on Gator are low compared to WQIk or WEJZ, but both stations have ratings and have built up listenship over years. I can assure you national and agency won't waste their time or risk their clients on a station with a .07.

Dude I like your eagerness but start ups take time. Has Clear Channel pissed of advertisers and listeners? Yes. And will Renda do the same? Yes.

Will Gail Austin just rollover and give Rooster to Gator? Maybe. But if they can only sell spots in market 49 @ $40.00 who wants it!

Re: Gator

I bet the 3 country stations are sharing listeners, even 40% to 50%.

It will take more than a few books to really know what is taking place.

What is this...junior high school? How is that anyone's concern
(or any of your business)? Unbelievable.
______________
you're not a lawyer, are you?

The entire point of this post is this........Gail Austin is living with the guy who is making phone calls to get Gator off the air.

How is Gator catching up with CC's 2 stations? There has been a very warm reception from country fans in the market.

Now they are bringing back free country concerts at the landing. Something that WQIK did when Boomer and Greg were big. Don't expect Gator's ratings to stay on the bottom for long. And we shouldn't be surprized that Gail Austin is pulling strings to do everything she can to save her job, and that even means getting the love of her life to make a few phone calls to the University of Florida.

It is our business when she is messing with radio, public airways.

And it is not Junior High School. It is what Gail makes it.

Gator

You're probably right about that. These battles are almost never over in a month or in a book or 2 or even a year.

Sorry, missed this response (you responded ot your own post).

"there has been a very warm reception from country fans in the market" is your claim. How so? If all you have is a "feeling" or anecdotal references, please make it know these are personal and not proof or evidence.

These days, success in radio is measured with ratings and revenue. "A buddy likes them" or "I saw them at a remote" doesn't count.

back it up

Again- how are you willing to back up such a claim? Based on your response, this certainly does feel very 7th grade.

Re: Gator

> Of course they are sharing listeners . Before WGNE 65% of WROO listners also listend to QIK and around 32% of QIk listen to WROO. WGNE will continue to be more proactive with the listenrs then WROO or QIK. Renda put a country on in Naples against 2 CC countrys and won big time

So "SHE" isn't part of the public?

>And it is not Junior High School. It is what Gail makes it.

Again...no answer. You must be too close to this situation
______________
you're not a lawyer, are you?

I don't see CC getting into a frivilous lawsuit with a third-rate
Country station because of some PD's love life. This is the most
childish post ever on RI! Is Florida getting upset over the use of
the name "Gator?" I bet there are hundreds of other businesses
in the area using the name, right? If CC has trademarked the name
"Gator" or "Gator Country" there is a pretty serious potential for
a problem, though. I doubt they have, but it's certainly possible.

Regardless, the real issue at hand is that there is no way this
market can or will support three FM Country stations. If it doesn't
work in Nashville, it won't in Jacksonville.

Why is everyone so obsessed with a station with NO obvious potential
to win or even try to win?

Who cares about whose doing what to who, unless it's happening
in CC or Renduh's building???
