Clearchannel Houston Cluster major cutback

Clear Channel Houston is quickly making it a dangerous place if you are full-time.
Many employees working full time have been demoted to a part time status and stripped of benifits effective immediatly. The meetings with employees effected were done earlier this week. The number of employees affected is unknown nor is it known if it's the end of the cutbacks. I have been told that the AM side took a hard hit.

I'm in the building... no meetings like this have taken place. I think you may have CC confused with Cumulus.

I like the first post here. You state that there were MAJOR cutbacks and then you go on to write that the number of people let go is unknown. Well what was it? Was it a major cutback, or did one of your buddies get let go? Can it be a major cutback if you have no idea how many people were affected? Is the sky falling too?

Re: Clearchannel Houston Cluster major cutback /UPDATE UPDATE

Most all board op's on the am side demoted and of those one either left or was fired. I estimate 10 people were affected. I believe in the formats they run on the am that is a big number. The larger question is now are they done. Will there be further cutbacks on the news, FM, or administrative?

You have to ask yourself is CC really making a effort in broadcasting anymore. My guess they are looking to bail out or reinvent themselves in PODCASTING.

Previous postings on this site have spoken how many people have be let go or leave and never replaced. I spoke with one employee who said it is a ghost town in the offices. Many empty desk and plain abandoned office space.

When Michael Berry took office many questioned the move. This was a bussiness move to streamline ops. My hunch is it aint over yet! We will see more very soon. I feel for those affected and wish them the best.

I have heard that Michael Berry had a get together just days before the cutback. He gave them a Happy Hour type setting with the staff. I guess it was his cruel idea to make him feel good. You can fill in the blank on what type of person would do that to his or her staff.

I think this is a last ditch effort for survival.

There should be a movie: The Incredible Shrinking Radio Broadcasting Company

If this is true, and my attitude is "wait and see," seeing as this could just be a stab at Michael Berry, who elicits strong feelings, if this is true, its incredible. Its not even Christmas yet. Doesnt Clear Channel usually wait till Christmas to fire everybody?

HOHOHO! Youre fired!

Re: Clearchannel Houston Cluster major cutback /truthsayer is thy name...

and truth is what I speak. Every bit is true. The only item of possible exception is the number of employyes affected I was told about 10. The remaining employees were told they will work between 740 950 790 that they would avg 20- 23 hours a week. My insider says a few have already left. They may be short now who knows. I think they want to kill houston radio period! My guess the product you will hear will be horrible. Mr. Berry has already changed his theme song which sounds terrible on am radio. Not since the Mike Richards yanni theme song have I heard such a bad theme. The old one was much better and hip. Mr berry was most likely hired on a term contract to make the books match the budget set fourth by Edie Martini. He certianally is not a very straight boss with is people. The get together I menioned took place on Chimney rock just off westhiemer . Eddie Martini bragged in a meeting not to long ago he wanted clearchannel to be a fun place to work and raise morale. OK Eddie! Ken Charles is a prince compared to these guys. these guys are so high on themselves they probally were surprized nobody said thank you for the cut!
