For the past few years, I have been reminiscing of my early broadcast days. This started out during a discussion on a podcast that my friend and I produce (not advertising here). We began with our first jobs discussion but it was rather consumed by our fond memories of working at WCPA/WQYX under the Clearfield Broadcasters, Inc owners. We had even invited "the Voice of Clearfield," Bob E Day, onto the podcast to simply remember the good times and how things worked then. He even gave a brief description of his beginnings and his move from MI to PA.
Many of us board-ops, broadcasters, technicians, and such have our fond memories as we began a career (whether short or long)in broadcasting. This forum has a few threads, now closed, concerning the WCPA/WQYX topic and I'd like to rekindle this and perhaps meet a few that have worked at the station.
If you have not read my new to the forum post, my endeavor is to build a hobby station (part 15 and/or streaming) and replicate the AM booth as closely as I can. I continue to search for the vintage equipment to replicate it and I have a large family so free time is truly a luxury.
During my short tenure at the 110 Healey Ave building, Bob, the GM Carl Falvo as well as 2 very patient sisters mentored me and were able to cement board-op'ing and early broadcasting foundations that still resurface, especially when I DJ for parties.
Thank you for your moment for letting me share a bit of my affinity for WCPA/WQYX.
