Cledus talks about Rhubarb on the Bull

I heard Cledus T. Judd on the Bull this morning make a reference to what happened on Friday and that it was a shame so many people lost their jobs. He specifically spoke about what a class act Rhubarb Jones is, not only in radio, but what a good person he is with all the charities he's involved with. Cledus gave Rhubarb an open invitation to come on the Bull if he wanted to. Cledus said he was fortunate enough to say goodbye to his listeners in Tampa when he left there, and Rhubarb would always have an open mic at the Bull.
Pretty cool.

That's something that doesn't happen too much in radio anymore. In this atmosphere of competitiveness, it's really nice to see someone reach out to a competitor in the business whom he respects. Perhaps this will give Rhubarb the chance he deserves to say goodbye. Or maybe, just maybe, somebody else will pick him up and we won't have to say goodbye for now.

That and the opportunity to get Rhubarb's listeners to sample him in the oft-chance it occurred.

I doubt Rhubarb is going to go on someone else's air with 14 months left on his WYAY contract and jeopardize a free ride, but I do admire Cledus for mentioning him and all of the affected people. Very nicely done and a very classy move.

Casual radio listeners who noticed the odd absence of Rhubarb on 106.7 might have gone fishing on other country stations and heard Cledus's comments, which serves basically the same purpose as Rhubarb himself doing it.

Not to mention that Rhubarb probably has a non-compete clause in his contract that wouldn't let him even if he wanted to.

For a guy who has all the contacts Cledus never seems to get them on the air. Why talk about Rhubarb when you can pick up the phone,

I believe he did say he called and left him a message.
So did I and I also called the President of the United States and then I called Toby Keith and then I called, I called, I called ...but who has he talked to? Where is the big star power connection. Seriously the only person the man has talked to is his daughter

Just found out Rhubarb is under contract until April 2009!!!

I've listened to Rhubarb since the late 80s when I was doing country in Columbus and could hear Rhubarb on the Y104 portion of Y106/Y104. I've never met or talked to him but in listening to him on air and also seeing his annual involvement with Muscular Dystrophy as co-host of the Atlanta cutaways of the MDA telethon, Rhubarb seems like a class act to me!
