Cletus T. Judd - Bull Bound?

The country comic relief has left his morning show at WQYK in Tampa on good terms. Says he plans to move to Atlanta to care for his mother who lives in the area.

Coincidentally, there just happens to be a country station in Atlanta in need of a big name morning show... or is that idea just a load of Bull?

probably true, and unfortunately for him, sad. who do you know that would work for them especially here? Career ender. Big staff at QYK, and a heritage that carries whatever talent that works there. He will be thrown to the wolfs here with no support. CC is firing people all over the country, so what are the odds that he will have to do it on his own....something he never had to do in Tampa. Radio isn't stand-up. good guy, and if true a bad decision for him.

On the other hand, CC is notorious for pulling their jocks from Tampa to their stations here. So, that could very well be a possibility.

This ceratinly makes sense bring a guy famous for parody songs and stand up comedy and put him on the Bull, with Baseball and target W25-54 shopping in the grocery store because it's comfortable...no1uno is dead on career ender!

They've been pulling jocks and salespeople from CC's Tampa stations. But WQYK is CBS, not CC.

I'm glad to see this. Big D & Bubba--what was CC thinking?

But you have to ask a couple of questions. Looking at the past year's ratings, it doesn't appear the market has enough audience for 3 country stations. And given how well Kicks has staved off the The Bull's ratings challenge, it doesn't look like Kicks is going to just fold. And Eagle seems to be serving its purpose, hence the term "flanker."

Yes, The Bull has apparently hurt Kicks/Eagle profitability. (At least Mr. Suleman thinks so.) But I just don't see how any of the players will live the good life with 3 stations in the format. And The Bull seems least likely to win.

I will contend the "Bull" has never tried to win. Sure, they aired a few Tv spots but what else? With the addition of Cletus maybe they'll go on the attack. How about sponsoring SOMETHING other than baseball related promotions? How about tweaking the music a little heavier? Xmas music? C'mon... How about some boot scootin country? Get some attitude! When did country become all about the women? Your name is the "Bull" for goodness sake. You air all the baseball games but cater to women the rest of the time? Be "THE" Country station in Atlanta. Don't just settle. With the right personal and the desire to take down the big dog, The "Bull" could win! It's been done before.

I agree that this is definitely a good move. And, I'm glad to see investments into morning radio again. And, IYR, from Cletus's attitude, that may be their next step, into skewing more male. In Rodney's blog, he says he relates to the guy in his truck, making 11 bucks an hour and hating his job, plus a few other things that makes him Country, but not real comfortable country. The closest to "real, comfortable" he comes to, seems to be if he wears Wranglers: Real, comfortable, jeans. :D
