More Info on Ghoulardi?

> 6:10 Movie-Caltiki, Immortal Monster 1960
> Hosted by "Ghoulardi" (Ernie Anderson)
Ahh, Ghoulardi.I heard he was one of the best of the early years of Horror Hosts, ranking up there with New York's Zacharly and Los Angeles's Vampira. When did he start horror hosting and when did it end? What was the name of his show? Did his show just end or did they find a replacement for Ghoulardi? I have heard of "The Ghoul" and I am guessing he was Ghoulardi's replacement? I have seen the movie he showed that night, Caltiki Immortal Monster, a Mario Bava classic. I saw it on Channel 44 in San Francisco about 30 years ago.

Ghoulardi still is a cult phoenomomen here in Cleveland. Ernie Anderson packed up and left fot the Left Coast in, I think, 1966.
The show that replaced it was called "The Houlihan and Big Chuck Show"
Houlihan was Bob Wells, Weatherman at WJW/8
Big Chuck Schodowski was a producer and part time bit player on Ghoulardi's skits, most remembered was "Parma Place"
Ron Sweed was the Ghoul. He had a weekend show on WKBF/61. He also worked with Ernie Anderson, but could not use the name "Ghoulardi" because Storer Broadcasting owned the rights.

Another knock off was on channel 67 in Canton called "Son of Ghoul"

Tim, you are the resident expert of Cleveland television history. If anything here is in error, please let me know. Also fill in the info that I know I left out.

Thanks Cliff, for the kind words

You are pretty well correct..Ernie went out to Hollywood at the urging of his friend, Tim Conway (McHales Navy) whom Ernie had hosted an earlier morning movie with on Channel 8..Ernie became known as the announcing "voice" of ABC-TV doing promos and network spots for over 25 years. Houlihan left in the 1970's to manage a Christian TV station in Florida and was replaced by "Little John" Rinaldi,a local jeweler who had appeared in Houlihan and Big Chuck skits..As far as I know, Big Chuck and Little John is still going on Fox 8..So the "Horror Movie" franchise in its various forms has been going strong on Channel 8 for over 42 years.

Cliff and Floyd,
There is an excellent book out by Akron Beacon Journal TV writer R. D. Heldenfels and Ex-Cleveland Plain Dealer TV writer Tom Feran called Called "Ghoulardi:Inside Cleveland TV's Wildest Ride..A detailed history of the Ghoulardi Phenomenon..If uou can find it through Interlibrary loan or get it through a local bookstore it is a very entertaining read..Gray and Company is the publisher..below is a link that will take you to a couple of sample pages

>I remember reading somewhere that while doing the Ghoulardi show, Ernie Anderson produced a wicked parody of "Gunsmoke"...Do any old Cleveland TV gurus know about that? Also, did radio legend Pete "Mad Daddy" Myers ever do any TV work in Cleveland while he was there, before going to New York?
