Cleveland PPM Results

This is just based out of the 6+ numbers overall.

The Fan seems to be making ground, though slowly, and nipping on WKNR's heels. WDOK didn't do too badly, even taking the usual Holiday dip and the hoopla surrounding "The New 102." WNWV has rebounded with the return of The Wave. Don't be surprised if it does better than V. WMJI and WTAM came out strong.

Saw this posted on the Columbus Board:

I was stunned when I saw the 4.7 for TVN. But almost all talkers are down, especially those who clear Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck in our region.

In Cleveland, WTAM had it's lowest book in the rolling numbers and off almost 3.5 shares since November. WTAM is a blend of Limbaugh and local

Just now checked this out and these are the lowest numbers WTAM has ever had in the the ratings.
Are there going to be any changes over at WTAM to bring the ratings back up? What dose Mike Trivisonno have to saw about this? Has he talked about these recent ratings surveys on the air?
He occasionally talks about the ratings on his show but I have only heard him talk about the ratings when he has had a good book. He likes to brag about his good books! ::)

Indians games will likely boost WTAM. Same for WMMS. It will be interesting to see how both stations perform between now and November.

I wonder if WKRK will also get a boost following the announcement of carrying Browns games.

Regarding the most recent overall results, WDOK continues to struggle overall following all the changes (morning show, music playlist, "New 102") since they're now tied with WENZ in 6th place.

WGAR will get higher with better temperatures coming and 99X continues to show life.

Talk stations in general have suffered in most markets around the US since PPM replaced diaries.

Mainstream talk formats tends to lean male, and much like traditional classic rock....it has an aging core (45+).

Really, WMMS is "WTAM-FM"....a younger content, younger audience, male version of 1100's live/local shows.

Don't know what you are talking about.

WTAM's last few books have been their worst in years. They have been going down, down, down and down again.

Last year at this time they had a 8.6.

Now they are at a 4.5, and have the honor of being the lowest-rated station in the Cleveland Clear Channel cluster.

First off, please don't start with "Don't know what you are talking about." That to me is very condescending, and gets on my nerves.

Second, I wrote that strong reference back in March if you see the posting date. The ranking is higher, and as I wrote a follow-up (which I guess you might not have seen HHH), the Indians give them a boost to make them stronger! A 4.6 isn't too bad. As long as other CC stations are doing, there's no panicing at Oak Tree.

If you still don't know what I'm talking about, that's on you.

My apologies.

I thought that you were trying to make the case that they came out strong in this most recent (and the last several months') ratings, which they are tanking in quite badly.

It's all good. I didn't mean to be snarky, and my apologies to you on that.

I do appreciate your opinion and don't let my reactions stop you.

I will ask you what do you think in your opinion WTAM needs to do with their falling ratings?

In my opinon (for what it's worth), TAM will start picking up as we get closer to next year's midterm election, as that's when the political junkies will start coming out of the woodwork again. Also next year is the Ohio Governor's election, which will attract lots of local attention (especially if it's Gov. Kasich vs Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald).

And the better the Tribe plays, the better it is for 1100 (and MMS).

People tuned out TAM because they were all politicked out, especially after the election. But once the cycle starts up again, it'll pick back up.

Also if "Browns Daily" does go up to 1-3 p.m. as expected on WKNR, that will help Rush Limbaugh on 1100 and also 92.3 The Fan, as nobody's gonna want to hear team propoganda for 2 hours (especially if they get off to a rough start).

No prob.

The big network radio talk shows (Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Savage, Mark Levin, etc) are collapsing all over the country. WABC New York and WOR New York, who carry between them just about all of those shows, each have their lowest ratings in years. Shultz and others on the left are doing no better, but they were never that big to begin with.

Part of it is the aging demos. Rush's demos are old and he is not picking up many younger folks.

Part of it is the way that PPM works, which I understand is not kind to talk radio.

But I really think there is a third element: I think, especially younger more savvy people, are not comfortable with someone on one side of the equation hammering for three hours that all of the problems in America have to do with one party, one ideology, one man. Also, a younger crowd seems to like a lighter touch like from Jon Stewart, who never makes you believe that the black helicopters loaded with Muslim operatives personally trained by Obama will be arriving at any moment to turn you gay, take every gun in your house and make Christmas illegal. They also don't seem to be falling for all that "wealth bad" stuff that the extreme left pushes.

I like the current generation. From what I see from them, most seem like they are not impressed by the old way of presenting politics as a simple team sport.

Plus, AM radio? Really?

Most under 30 barely listen to FM.

AM is like some strange dial that their grandpa listens to.

You don't even need AM for sports-talk or the games anymore.

Good points HHH and vjm. I'm getting more turned off by the syndicated hosts and how they're carrying on their topics.

There's also not much interest and programming on AM as a lot of the stations (especially here outside of WKNR and WTAM) on that band have pretty not much to offer unless it's a community station (a la WELW in Willoughby).

With 92.3 now programming sports talk, what station on FM could flip to a news/talk format in the near (or far) future?

I'd say WMMS would be logical, despite the success of the "mancave" format. However, the talk shows (Rover and Alan Cox) and sports programming (Indians only as of now, though don't be surprised if Cavs games are added in the fall) are getting better ratings than the rock format.

Yeah...MMS would be the most likey go to all talk, especially with The Lake and 99X avalible to pick up the music load.

However, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...100.7 as is with the talk/rock/Tribe mancave format works.
