Roughly second week of December through first week of January every year for Holiday book.

Here was last year's schedule.

There are two sides to going 100% holiday music for weeks before Christmas. Yes, the stations usually get a big ratings spike, but you will notice that the next book is generally lower than the last book before the holiday music.

WAKS needs a new format. I know iHeart doesn't care about ratings, but they must realize nobody is listening.

Kiss is a standard issue iHeart format - it's all about promoting the current acts of today and their iHeart Music Awards. It goes nowhere, as the main objective is having the national Kiss brand being able to plant flags in markets.

It's kinda like WARF Fox Sports 1350 The Gambler - ratings are microscopic, but the important thing is planting the Fox Sports and Gambler flags in Cleveland.

Something needs to be done as ratings have gone down even more. WQAL continues to do better, while WENZ went up.

I do wonder if Jeremiah boosted the afternoon ratings for WAKS.

From beautiful suburban Akron... it's The Gambler... where it's a safe bet that you can't hear us in most of Cleveland!"

Current acts of today stink. Kiss can take their flag and shove it.

A lot of teenagers and young adults though are listening to streaming and the internet for music, especially the new releases.

About WAKS, let's remember it's an Akron station that reaches into Cleveland. The tower is halfway between the two cities so it has decent coverage of Cleveland. But it might not penetrate some apartment buildings and office towers like a true Cleveland station.

During the holiday season, most Top 40 stations are down. These days, Top 40 is a format for young women and many of them switch to Christmas music stations.

Also, in many markets, Top 40 has been hitting a snag. In Washington, WIHT is #13. In Philadelphia, WIOQ is #12. But I would guess, if you looked at WAKS's 18-34 female numbers, especially after the holidays, it would be right up there. And that's the demo and gender it sells to. Would iHeart want to see it stronger? Sure. But if it's delivering 18-34 women, that's OK.

That's a little cold! Times and tastes change but don't close yourself to it just because it's new. There is some great music being made today, you have to be discerning and curious enough to seek it out. It's worth the trouble, I think.

"Also, in many markets, Top 40 has been hitting a snag. "

That's because they are aiming at young people who generally don't listen to the radio for music anymore. New music is no longer broken from radio ever since the music selection was taken away from the locals by the national corporate 'know it alls". You no longer have great local music directors who were passionate about the music and even if you do, they have no real power anymore. Corporate control lit the fuse on a stick of dynamite which is eventually going to pretty much eliminate current music from terrestrial airwaves.
