CLEVER STATION SLUG LINES

What clever one liners do you remember stations using to promote themselves or dial position? If I recall
correctly, WPLO used a line coming out of their newscast, something like - "First on every Atlanta Radio Dial"
and as long as there was no station on a lower frequency, they could always claim that distinction.

88.5, WRAS - Left on the dial, right on the music.

Submitted by a listener and won their clever slug line contest. It sounds better if you add "Dude" at the end.

A couple of my favorites...

"Serving all of Texas, 48 States, 3 countries, and.... you!" (WOAI San Antonio, late 60's)

"From Chicago to the North American Continent.... W...L....S!!! (WLS Chicago, 1968)

"Z-93, WGTZ Eaton Dayton Alive. (WGTZ Eaton, OH, early 80's... creative legal ID before hyphenated cities were the norm. If you don't get it, say it out loud.)

jhead: WQXI- "Quickies in Dixie"

Too funny! While the station was actually known as "Quixie in Dixie", using "quickies in Dixie" would, um, probably result in an HR complaint these days.

Many apologies for butting in the middle of the Atl board with this, but given the topic, it bears mentioning...when in college in the 80's, I worked at WZLD in Columbia, SC, "Z-96...The #1 Hitkicker".

Seems to me that I also remember, from back in the 60s, QXI using the line - "Dandy Dixie Dynamo"!

Jacksonville, FL .....Early 80's....Rock 105's Legal ID

Rock 105 is WFYV Atlantic Beach/Jacksonville - "KICK ASS....Rock and Roll!" (BAM! top of the hour song)

It may seem kind of tame NOW, but being a high school kid, to hear the word ASS on the radio once and hour gave that station a coolness factor that couldn't be topped! 8)

Actually, John Sebastian (now PD of KPLX Dallas) can be credited for the "Kickass Rock & Roll" slugline from the early 80's. Many of his client stations at the time had a lot of success with that "grab you by the throat" slug line.

Around 1990 there was a much played top 40 song titled "Pump The Jam" or something.
A rock station had a slug line: "While the other stations are pumping up the jam, we're jamming up the pump"

It was actually "Number one on every Atlanta radio."
