CLICK 101.5 IS ALIVE!

So from what I've discovered so far.....

It's a hot-ac/alternative-leaning Modern AC... not much Hot AC or CHR like I was expecting with the old Modern Hit Music, Star 92.1 out of Lima.

It's biggest competition would be Mix, but also can steal some from 945 and The X with the alternative lean they have. They have a great gold collection so far... how will it affect other stations?

Here was the first hour of the new Click 101-5:

My Chemical Romance - Sing (2010)
Linkin Park - One Step Closer (2000)
Train - Hey, Soul Sister (2009-2010)
Blink 182 - What's My Age Again? (1999)
Black Keys - Tighten Up (2010) -- was a big alternative/AAA song
Timbaland & OneRepublic - Apologize (2006-2007)
Creed - My Sacrifice (2001)
Three Days Grace - Never Too Late (2007)
Pink - Perfect (2010)
Better Than Ezra - Desperately Wanting (1996)
Switchfoot - Dare You To Move (2004)
Mumford & Sons - The Cave (2010) -- another big AAA song
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (1991)
*Supposed to be stopset* lol
Kid Rock - All Summer Long (2008)
Adele - Rolling In The Deep (2010) - hot ac/aaa track

Interesting.... they have it centered right in between Hot AC and AAA. Enough to protect 1029 from losing it's younger women audience.

They must have wanted the format to be a secret because they didn't even let the Kiss Country
DJs say goodbye to all their loyal listeners over the past 24 years. They just yanked the station
off the air. :-*

What are the new call letters? Has anyone heard a legal ID yet?

They have commercials already! Listening to the stream, they say they are on a "commercial break".

I would've definitely let the DJ's sign off. They did something similar to Z93 when the DJ's found out last minute. They're ID'ing as WKSW Enon. Heard the ID twice from 2:50-3:00.

Scott Sharp went on the air on Z's last day and said that it was time to say goodbye to our old friend Z-93 and played Green Day's "Good Riddance(Time Of Your Life)". I know a ton else that happened that day...but I have been sworn to secrecy about it.
I was in the car today a little before 1 PM listening to 101.7...they had been playing Taylor Swift's "December Story" and the signal cut off about two or so minutes into the song. No formal goodbyes, no nothing. I immediately switched over to 101.5, which had their Stereo pilot on with dead air, then they said WKSW Enon, and launched into what they've been using to tell the audience about the new station.
Oh yeah, the legal ID fired at 2:50-2:55.
Also it sounds like they're running spots that were originally intended for Kiss Country. LOTS of Clark and Champaign County. They'll probably run them for as long as they promised that they'd run them on KC.

I do remember hearing about that... no signoff of Kiss Country. How big exactly were they in Clark/Champaign county?

@Radio Dude, If they lean more Hot AC, they can avoid that. The more 90s and AAA they play... it's possible.

If you think this move will hurt Fly, you've hit the swatter. This move basically fills in the gap between Hot and Fly demographically. Click to me sounds like a rebooted version of Z-93 that leans more rock. This move was made to put the noose tighter around the neck of Mix 107.7. Mix was down to a 4.7 in the last 12+ book...Click will most likely "Click" them into the 3s. Mix HAS to change, and change NOW. No more 80s. 90s-forward. Also they need to bring in a SummerFest act from this century.

What about Kiss? Shouldn't Kiss be worried or CC for that matter b/c they're automated. I think they should bring some DJs back there or something! It's making people lose jobs!

Don't know the numbers but Kiss Country had a bigger listener following than its previous formats,adult contemporary and then CHR. Now that there is no longer any kind of live local commercial radio in Springfield and Urbana,its time for some courageous person to file for an LPFM in both communities and their respective counties.

Just want to give my best to Lee Riley and his coworkers in Springfield . I wish them all well.

It's amazing to me that they decided to go this way with the new frequency. I guess we will see how they do in the coming months. Should make things very interesting.

@Radio Dude

Yes, those artists are Hot AC-approved, but you can also hear Black Keys, Florence & The Machine, and other AAA tunes. Unless you are a AAA fan, a lot of those songs except the ones that Mix play will be unfamiliar. They'll really need to be careful on the lean.... as of now though, they're centered between Hot AC/Modern AC and AAA. It's good enough to protect both Hot and Fly.

@Alan

Their gold collection definitely resembles Z93. This will work well with those listeners who've converted to Channel or Mix due to Z leaving the market.

Things will get interesting! Like UDfan said, can't wait to see the ratings!

So much for trusting the clown in the halls at Mainline who told me they would stay country. The horse's head is being delivered to David Road by a goth U.P.S. driver as we speak. :p

I just said this on the CBus board.

1. WMMX - Obvious Target
2. WXEG - No one is mentioning this, but HELLO! Women that listen for Offspring, Green Day and Nickelback now have a place where they can hear that music with other stuff on their IPod and not the hard edge rock stuff.

I think it has a decent chance! Great job MAINLINE

So typical of Main Line is to fire people. Now veteran Lee Riley is out of a job. Remember when they came on the scene Main Line said in the trades they are not about firing people. Would anyone like to a head count of how many hsve left the stations since they took over.

I totally respect everyone who comments on the posts. However am I the only one who is fed up with Main Line putting on radio stations with no local jocks. Look how long it took for them to put someone on Fly Main Line doens't seem to care about putting on a good local show. What has happened to the thinking that you need a local morning show? I guess the sucessful radio stations in Cincinnati that have a local morning show must not be doing it right.

I don't care about listening to a juke box radio station. There are far too many sources out there to get the music I want.

Main Line had an opportunity to go with a couple of formats that would create a lasting buzz but wasted it again. Main Line is by far the worse thing that could happen to Dayton Radio.

Perhaps I am old school and my many years of experience in the business is pushing me in the wrong direction but they have failed again.

Main Line showed what they are made of to not allow Kiss to give a proper good bye to the loyal audience for 25 years. And we ask the question why people are souring on the business.
It shows how Main Line has no class in cutting off a song off the air and switching over to the new stations. The Kiss audience deserved better but I am sure Main Line was more than happy to take revenue out of Clark and Champaign county but could care less about their loyal advertisers all those years and the audience too. I undertsand business but what about showing class.

What about Kiss Country's GM and sales staff - what has happend to them?

I believe in giving credit where credit is due. I failed to add that Main Line did an excellent job of taking a station that was going nowhere with Z-93 and putting on an excellent and well researched station in the Fly. The jock they have is great. I disagree that she is not in morning drive instead.

It just hurts to see so many stations bite the dust. Their new station may do well but the Kiss situation could have been handled better.

I don't know any of the people with the company but

Wonder if Click is the next big format... could Gen X be the new Jammin' Oldies? (Side note, we have both a Click FM clone and a Gen X clone in Albany, on WKBE/100.3 and WQSH/105.7 respectively... though the former is a rimshot station from Glens Falls.)

WKBE has been doing a format similar to this since 2007, after they flipped from a Mainstream Hot AC to a Modern AC/AAA hybrid format (that's what Click is best described as, right? ;))

@Pioneer....

It sucks what happened to the staff at Kiss, but I'm sure they were even anticipating it with the talk of the new frequency launching. Here's what I've learned about Main Line. They stick to the budget. Hot has 3 jocks: Scott Sharp, The Partyman, and K-Dub. WROU has 2. Garth Adams and Angel O'Shay... and Fly has the 1, Danielle. I don't think they'll put any on Click for awhile unless they use Danielle and Scott. The way the format is setup, it can run with imaging and music... but if they're trying to hit the streets, it'd be smart to throw a staff on there. That's how Z failed in the end.

@Danikayser

This format's been alive for awhile. I personally prefer Adult CHR and Hot AC over Modern AC/AAA but it seems to test pretty decent with women. It reminds me of the following stations all wrapped into one: Frequency 9-4-1 from Cincinnati, 94-9 The Sound HD-2 from Cincinnati, The X's HD-2 alternative station out of Dayton mixed with a little Mix 107-7 since they're playing Pink and Mike Posner.

They're repeating songs... but it could be because they're resting their library for overnight and expanding their playlist for the daytime. OR going with a small playlist for the first week or so.

The stations that are going to be targeted the most: Mix and The X... it will take the women from Mix and the men from The X. They may grab a few from Channel, but those listeners are listening to Gaga, Ke$ha, and The Black Eyed Peas which don't play on Click.

Interesting they used "Modern Hit Music" when it's more "Modern Music" like Click in Seattle... it must be a marketing move.

@Lovejammin...you are right. They could pull Danielle and Scott to record on Click because it would keep the budget down and voices on the air. Also couldn't they use BC? I heard he still works there and he was on the Edge/X for a long time, right? Thats just my take on it. I'e listened to the stream here in Fort Worth since 6pm last night, I love it.
