Does anyone actually still have a clock radio in their own home?
I have a Cambridge Soundworks Model 88, purchased in 2000 from one of the Cambridge Soundworks mall stores in the Bay Area. There was an optional auxiliary clock unit that can turn the radio on via remote control at a preselected time, so I got that. The combination of the two units has been my clock radio for 23 years. Sound quality is excellent, thanks to a subwoofer; reception performance is better than average though there are better units out there for that purpose. There's also a remote control. When turning on, the audio ramps up so that you don't get blasted awake.
The DSP-based travel radios that first appeared 12-13 years ago usually have a clock and an alarm function. The Grundig G8, Tecsun PL-310ET, Tecsun PL-380, Tecsun PL-505 and PL-606 (there are others, too) all have this functionality, though the alarm function turns on the radio at a preset volume which sometimes can make you feel like you're being blasted out of bed. But my favorite travel radio is the Digitech AR-1780, an Australian brand purchased by mail order from Jaycar, with decent sound quality, excellent reception performance, and an analog volume control that doesn't get overridden unlike the Tecsuns. The CCrane Skywave is another good travel-radio choice, albeit with slightly lesser reception performance than the Digitech.
