Clock Ticks on KFYI Afternoons

Say what you will about KTAR's change, but it looks to me like it will make ratings higher for them in afternoons. I think KTAR made this decision partly because of how bad KFYI sounds in the afternoon with JD Hayworth. How long do you think it will take for KFYI to fire JD now that they will face a talk show host competitor now?

I agree it will get KTAR higher ratings, but I don't think you can give JD credit for this one. I'm surprised his show has lasted this long.

Getting rid of the Evil Joe Crummey was a BIG mistake.

JD is terrible, embarassing radio.

So is Savage.

It's not the vulnerability of KFWhyEye in PMD, but the missed opportunities at KT'R. McBland was headed down a dead end road behind the wheel of a '74 Buick LeSabre. A three hours news block in PMD made absolutely no sense (unless they wanted to move back to 6~Twenty). So to get the ratings, get the demos and get the image TMISU so desire, the afternoon line-up had to change. The Nurse and I think it's a good move, only executed rather late in the game.

Not that billboards necessarily mean anything (Scott Conner - remember him? - got one), but I saw a JD Hayworth billboard on I-17 at 7th Ave this morning. They haven't done that before. Looks like they're putting some money behind his show. What's different about it is most KFYI billboard have Barry and Hannity, or Barry and Rush or Jacobs and Hannity... you get the drift. JD's is all JD.

Do billboards cost Clear Channel stations money? Or do they just give their unsold inventory to the stations in place of "your ad here" type billboards?

In the end, it costs them money. I'd be curious to know the other locations where the JD billboards have been placed and what type of showing he is getting in Phoenix.

Crummy did a crappy job. KFYI needs local talent with talent.

Crummy was awful and impossible to listen to. He had to go. He was like "wow man, that is like, so uncool man, you know what I am sayin? like, eeevil man, wow, huh huh huh". Brilliant radio there.

Of course he was no worse than the truly terrible liddy and hill. Juvenile, boring, played out morons that they were. I actually preferred the angry pessimistic rantings of Goyette, since at least he went against the grain, though apparently not too many others felt the same.

KFYI hasn't known greatness since the days when Bob Mohan followed Barry Young, back when Young actually had some passion. The whole lineup is weak, across the board. Stale.

Gee, we really liked The Evil One!

J.D. is so full of hot air and himself (isn't that redundant?). With all the political digs he makes, it'll be next to impossible for him to ever get elected again and spare us from his radio show. The Nurse (real one) and I would listen more to KFWhyEye in afternoons if Joe Crummey was there.

Here's the talk show host that you really like...and I aint no dummy! I feel so happy when I'm at the mic, 'cause I'm Joe Crummey! (written and performed by Billy Preston)

JD comes off as a deposed dictator who believes that he will be restored to power.

He doesn't get that lots of people, left and right, just don't like him.

Besides, his voice grates on me, its too high and whiney.

Crummey was enjoyable and entertaining.

I don't think "stale" is any kind of an issue in this market-witness KT'R. Stale Young is better than stale McMahon was, and look how long he lasted. Crummey was Awesome, but way too cool for this town, sadly. Listening to J. D. Is Hell. Dudeboss has to be learning diabled to believe anyone wants to listen to this guy.
