Closing Credits at Warp Speed

Has anyone noticed that the closing credits on some shows are running VERY FAST?

On tonight's (10/17) "Entertainment Tonight", as the hosts talk about tomorrow's show, the closing credits were running very, very fast, you can't even read them. They only pause the credits for the clothing plugs.

Between shrunken credits and speedy credits, they defeat the purpose of them being there at all -- why have credits if they're illegible?

Because they are most likely required by union contracts.
We don't actually see real credits on network broadcasts any more, but they do exist, it is a shame since many shows have great end title themes.
______________

I agree...not only that but during Fox's baseball coverage they'd put a graphic up with some interesting trivia but a couple seconds later it was off again. We're
not all speed readers--actually I can read pretty quickly but it's on and off
so fast it's almost like it's a subliminal message, not a graphic intended
to present some interesting facts.
______________

You want to see things like: sometimes a show like Family Guy will have
a famous actor/actress playing themselves or doing some other kind of
voice, and you wonder whether or not it's really them (Gregg Allman,
for example). You actually wait to see the credits to see if that was
the real celeb but it goes by SO fast...
______________

Actually if you watch closely, when it comes to the "voice" credits on FG, they don't blow by them. They are actually at a decent pace and you can read them. Once those are done, then they speed 'em up.

Then why isn't the union yapping about them? I think they would like to actually see names in the credits, not a speeding blur or squished mess.

That's what IMDB is for...I can't believe you'd trade content for credits and a rehashed jingle.

"The Chicago Tribune" had a blip about how producers no longer care about opening and closing themes. They also stated the credits are "required" but went into no further explination. Funny not everyone has internet but I guess if you want to know someting bad enough you'll go to the library.

Too bad 'cause The Dick Van Dyke show wouldn't work now. You know how people are always recognizing Rob Petrie from his name in the credits..

Not unless of course you watch the same episode on cable. Of course Family Guy is on [adult swim!] That's when they put the credits....lock stock and barrel!

ABC Family is just about the worse in that department. They show the Warner Brothers or Touchstone or Sony's logo and then the shrunked credits and then you don't see any of the ending credits of Full House,Family Matters, and Boy Meets World especially when they don't show the ending tag lines that Family Matters and Boy Meets World have when they show the closing credits they extend the episode with dialogue which is missing from these shows on ABC Family,in fact more and more networks are doing it now. The soap operas are now showing the closing credits at the bottom of the screen and they show them so fast that you can't see who plays who now. Just about as bad is the square ratings system where they show TV-G,TV-PG,TV-14,TV-MA and they show an even larger square now where it takes up about 1/8 of the screen.

funny that you posted it...as i am a big fan of soundtracks/tv theme music/etc...there was an article asking if the day of the catchty tv theme was about to phase out due to the increased effort to compress the credits...

i think its a shame only if the music is going away.....which it seems to be ...most of the new shows don't even have serious theme music...which blows to me....

A couple times I've been up early in the morning like 2AM or 3AM and a movie is ending on TBS or TNT and I've seen them run the credits full screen at hyper-speed and they also have the music playing at hyper-speed too.

And when a few years back when TNN used to show the movie Ferris Bueller's Day off, they'd squeeze the credits and run their own promos even though in that movie there's a couple more scenes running while the credits are rolling. Now that sister station Comedy Central Runs the movie everythings fine.

Yes! This besides the parental guidelines boxes, blurring, dubbing dialouge, and the constant pop ups are the reason I watch movies from a video store than on cable or network tv.

It does make it hard because by the time I get on the internet to look who's was on a particular episode of a tv show, I have forgot about it. At least dvds don't pull this crap.

Did Fox start the smushy and fast credits?
They seem to do a lot of that bad stuff.
