"Club Nine" on Nine FM

Heard a sweeper with Frankie "Hollywood" Rodriguez last night promoting "Club Nine" which will be heard the Wednesday right before Thanksgiving. Looks like Frankie will be mixing it up during the show.

I didn't hear a start time or how long it will last. By the sound of the sweeper it doesn't sound like it's going to be some sort of house or trance event. Sounds like Frankie will be mixing old school style with some 80's, 90's, etc.

Just figured y'all would want to know!<P ID="signature">______________

I think that's a great idea. 9 is doing a good job making it feel like its a CHICAGO station. It knows its history, and they are pushing the fact that they are not "Corporate Radio."

If anybody is capable of mixing it up old-style, it would be Frankie. He may be one of the most versatile mixers in Chicago. Add to that the fact that he's been on Chicago radio in some capacity or another for a LONG time, 9 would be wise to hire him outright to do something full time. He does have a draw and could actually possibly bring some ratings to the table from his many adventures in radio be it on-air with his own shift or doing party mixes...he's entertaining either way you go. Just thinking out loud...

Do you guys think nine is going to be able to survive? Personally I think its the best station in chicago (even if it is a rim shot).

I have no idea what they bill; my guess is that it's pretty low. But, they seem to be filling their spots with advertising on all three sticks.

Fred Eychaner had plenty of naysayers in the early days of WPWR TV Chicago, yet he made that a success, and did well selling it to Fox. If he's determined with 92.5/92.7/99.9 he'll make it work, somehow... Perhaps as Nine, perhaps as something else.

Count me in as one of the naysayers for Nine, I didn't give it a chance. My opinion has now shifted to "maybe it'll fly, maybe it won't." :) I'll give them some credit, it's not like they threw the product out there to take or leave, and then just left it to rot after that... they've slowly been working and trying to improve on what they want to provide, although I'm still puzzled as to what that might be. I think you have to factor in flip of WJMK to Jack as something that forced Nine to step up a bit. The fact they've got live talent on the air certainly helps.

Back to the topic of Frankie Hollywood, I'm glad to hear he'll be back on the air again. He's not only a well-known radio mixshow jock, but he's a fun radio personality to listen to also. I hope the show does well.
