CMA to Morgan Wallen: Stay away

Morgan Wallen continues to be punished for the racial slur he was recorded saying. Although his album has been nominated for an award, he has been ordered not to show his face at the CMA Awards show or pre-show festivities. Most radio stations have resumed playing his past hits -- "Whiskey Glasses," especially -- and his new single "Sand in My Boots" has gained enough adds to be No. 22 in country airplay. The most prominent holdout remains SiriusXM, which "canceled" him on all of its channels immediately after the slur tape leaked.

Apparently country radio doesn't agree. I did a look at MediaBase and almost all reporting stations are playing his current single "Sand In My Boots." It's in the Top 30. In addition his hit "Whiskey Glasses" is the most played country gold. His latest album is still #1 on the Billboard chart.

I heard "Sand in My Boots" on the radio for the first time today, on WXLF (The Wolf) up here in the Upper Valley of VT/NH, where I'm visiting. AFAIK, WWYZ back home in CT isn't on it yet, but that may be because it's reluctant to add too much traditional or ballads in general, preferring the beach/booze/party side of country. Anyway, I love the new single and hope eventually it gets on radio everywhere, including SiriusXM, but there may be "woke" pressure on SXM brass, being in New York City. Do you know if WNSH is playing Wallen again, gold or current?

They are playing Whiskey Glasses. So is WWYZ.
Yeah, I hear it a lot on 92.5. It's a booze song, so it's a good fit for the station's dominant sound. And WWYZ is also an iHeart station, and that was the first major chain to start playing it again. But they're not on the new single, and if I understand you correctly, neither is WNSH. I can't imagine that all iHeart stations everywhere are ignoring "Sand in My Boots."
