Former NFL player Dan Pas-ter-RONI?? Peter Arnel must have mispronounced it 4 times within one story on a late Monday edition of TSN News. Or maybe he was just hungry...the next anchor got it right.

"Just sayin'".
 
I heard Gloria Campos (I think it was Gloria) on the Ch. 8 News refer to Cadiz (Pron. KAY-dihz) just like the CAD (computer aided dispatch) as CUH-deez.

Just a pet peeve. I guess it won't be long until it's the city of LAN-cas-ter.
 
Aw, c'mon you guys... lighten up on my man Peter. He's been doing that evening shift for about 5 years now on KRLD, and added the evening anchor duties on TSN a year or so ago. His work as an entertainment reporter prior to that was brilliant. He's a competent broadcaster and a cheerful compatriot, and I'd have him in my shop any day... If I had a shop...You've got to respect a guy who can take the c**p, keep smiling, and still do a good job day in and day out.

Work as an entertainment reporter was "brilliant?" That guy was stealing money for years, working about five minutes a day rippping entertainment news from the AP feed. What a shame he has to do some work now.
 
Wow, 'A', who whizzed in your Wheaties? Your assessment of Peter's entertainment reports is off base. I was there at 5:00 AM, as he prepared for his KTVT cut-ins, I was there in the early afternoon when he chased down interviews, I saw him editing same, and I'm proud of him for staying with a REALLY lousy shift. Maybe you're not getting enough lithium?
 
Being born and raised in Nevada, it pains me to hear southerners pronounce it wrong.

Nev-add-da not Nev-au-da.

But don't feel bad, even NBC had to do a special report on the problem of people not pronouncing it right.

Lousy shift? Unfortunate the hours were not convenient for Peter. I hope CBS apologized to him

He was lucky to have a job. I'm sure many hundreds of more qualified applicants would have loved to have that position.

"Chasing down" interviews meant a five second sound bite he had two hours to edit for a one minute report. He must have been exhausted. It was a joke amongst many staffers how little he worked. When he had to start doing news he actually had to put out some effort.
 
I know, I know...we all slip up sometimes. (I think I did one time, well, maybe twice. 1988, and again in 2002.) ::)

I wasn't picking on Peter on purpose. I used to listen to him on K-104 for years, back in the day. He just happened to be the one on board when KEOM was playing the TSN News, and my hands were too full at the time to change the station. ;D

BTW, to Chris F.....any consideration ever given to dropping TSN for something else at KEOM? Like CNN or something? Hell, I'd take USA/IRN over TSN. After what an a$$ Julius Graw acted towards KEOM and Dr. G on one occasion that I know of, I figured TSN would be gone long ago. (I know Graw's gone from there now, but "just sayin'".) For me, it's a major tune-out!

And yes, still a dedicated, die-hard KEOM listener since 1993. (the "Community Bulletin Board" beats 10 mins worth of spots on a CC or a C-BS station.) Except for The Osmonds and Norman Greenbaum, I'm game for about anything played.

What about the street near Cadiz, Corinth? Compare the pronunciation of the street with the Denton County city of Corinth. Things like this vary from station to station, or sometimes between different on-air people at a particular station, as in the case of Navarro County. After the storms a few days ago that did heavy damage to an apartment complex in Corsicana one of the news anchors on Fox 4 and the reporter on the scene pronounced Navarro differently. To the locals it's Nuh-VARE-uh (or Nuh-VARE-oh), not Nuh-VARR-oh. For proof, there's always tuning in to the local news on KAND 1340 in Corsicana, or this from the Texas Almanac (whose phonetic spelling is a little different from mine): www.texasalmanac.com/images/TownPronunciationGuide.pdf

But back to the subject at hand, I'd hope that most of the folks at TSN know who Dan Pastorini is (or was), including Peter Arnel. I didn't hear his report but considering Peter's background could there be a possibility that it was a weak attempt at humor, like sportsy shtick, or is that too much of a reach?

Tuh-RELL=the former Dallas police chief who commended officers for getting fake drugs off the streets before they could hurt someone.
