CMT FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE

Did anyone notice that last Friday evening CMT --- formerly "Country Music Television" -- has gone the route of THe Weather Channel by airing a "C" grade movie in the evening -- this time Pauly Shore's "You're In The Army Now." I don't see why the major MSO's don't make a major fit when channels such as Weather Channel and now CMT are airing programming that have absolutely no connection to the channel's main stated format.

And now for the 9,317,823rd version of the same ol' thread.

CMT has been airing movies for a good while now. It's not surprising to see a movie on at any time. What's worse is the "16 and Pregant", "Supernanny", "Extreme Makeover", and such. They even have their own reality shows that would belong on animal planet or discovery. Just read the post someone linked to USA Today on this board. It's pretty much the norm now for every cable network to shun their original purpose.

This from the network infamous for airing another Pauly Shore classic, "Son-In-Law."

Let me know when CMT is scheduled to run "Jury Duty"! :D

I suspect part of their problem is they've run out of movies that have an obvious connection to country music. Only so many times you can run Pure Country, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Beer For My Horses. At some point, they have to stretch the definitions of the demographic, and let's face it: A Pauly Shore movie about the Army isn't a stretch for country fans. By the way, they get bigger numbers for these movies than they would for music videos. And it gives them a chance to reach a different audience from time to time. As mentioned in another thread, the day of narrowly defined cable channels is over. At some point, I expect to see "Air Force One" and "Indepdendence Day" on MSNBC.

No, no no....they once ran music videos all the time, ergo they must do so forevermore. There may be no change. They may not try to reach out to a wider audience and grow their business. They must, until the end days, be bound to nothing but Garth Brooks videos.

Or so speaketh the experts. :D

IF YOU WANT VIDEOS FROM CMT THEN YOU'RE WATCHING THE WRONG CHANNEL. MUSIC VIDEOS 24/7 ON CMT PURE COUNTRY.

(whispers) Or GAC!

Honestly, I'm not a big country music fan, but the movies actually have caused me to watch CMT more. They've actually had more that I've wanted to see than the ones TV Land shows. One thing that didn't make much sense though was their showing of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation in January and February, AFTER the Christmas season is over. ???

And you're exactly the kind of casual viewers that CMT hopes to pull in by scheduling such non-country fare. You're contributing to the downfall of cable television as we know it! ;D
